CLICKING NOISE COMING OUT FROM EXHAUST AND ENGINE HAS RPM BUT LACK OF POWER
Experienced gardeners share their insights in answering this question :
How much oil where? The engine is a two stroke so you mix the oil with the gas right? The mix ratio should be on the gas cap. The engine may be starved for fuel which may be one of two things. 1) a fuel line has hardened and broken and you are only running on vapors. You can look into the gas tank and see if the lines are both there and intact. One will be short as that is the fuel return and the other will go into the bottom of the tank and have a small weighted filter *(called a clunk) on it. I often get units that have the clunk just sitting all by itself and the fuel line sticking up above the fuel getting vapors. If the lines are all intact then…..
2) the carb could be filling with sludgey fuel so you should get some fuel system cleaner and mixing up a tankful and see if it improves performance.
You should dump your old fuel if it has been sitting for more than a couple months too. I think one out of five no starts are just bad fuel nowadays. It is amazing how little time and water it takes to ruin todays gasoline.

Be careful and good luck!

How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

According to Stihl, gas and oil for leaf blowers should be mixed at a ratio of 50 parts gas to 1 part oil. This amounts to about 2.6 ounces of oil to each gallon of gas.
According to Craftsman, the proper fuel mixture ratio for this blower is 40:1.
What is the right gas-oil mix for leaf blower? The right gas to oil ratio will depend on your backpack leaf blower. Usually, a two-cycle engine uses a 50:1 or 40:1 2 stroke oil to gas ratio. But to know the exact measurements of the oil and gas you need to mix, it is best to go and check your owner`s manual.
Most STIHL gasoline-powered equipment runs on a 50:1 mixture of gasoline and 2-cycle engine oil.
For a 50:1 ratio of gas to oil, use 2.6 fluid ounces of oil per gallon of gas. For a 40:1 mixture, use 3.2 fluid ounces of oil per gallon of gas.
Oil mix ratios explained

If your manufacturer recommends a 50:1 fuel/oil mix, it means you need 50 parts of gas to one part two-stroke oil. To mix one gallon of fuel at 50:1, add 2.6 ounces of two-stroke oil to one gallon of gas, as shown in the chart below.

You`ll need STIHL 2-Stroke oil, an empty and clean fuel can & fresh unleaded fuel from a reputable petrol station. Mix at 50:1 (20mls oil per 1 litre fuel) when you`re using STIHL 2-Stroke oil.
To make 25:1 use the 2.6 oz two cycle oil to a 1/2 gallon of gas. That`s the simple way.
Excess oil can produce a smoky exhaust, oil leaking out of the muffler, and sometimes loss of power. While not ideal, these issues can be fixed by simply replacing the fuel in the tank with properly mixed fuel. But running a two-cycle engine with too little oil can actually destroy the unit.
NO, all blowers are designed to be run on a specified mixture, when using the manufacturer`s recommended two stroke oils.
1:25 = 1 part oil + 25 parts petrol, or 40 ml oil per litre of petrol when using other brands of oil. Any two-stroke engine oil you use in your petrol gardening tool must have the TC classification.
If you`re using a different brand of 2-Stroke oil, you`ll need to mix at 25:1 (40mls oil per 1 litre fuel). Petrol has limited shelf life (as low as 30 days), so always mix with fresh regular unleaded purchased from a reputable large volume fuel supplier.
100:1 – Mix 50ml of oil per 5ltrs of fuel.

Recommended by Yamaha and Suzuki for most of their small two stroke engines up to about 30hp, this ratio requires the least amount of TCW3 two stroke oil. The result of using this ratio (less oil) is reduced spark plug fouling and less smoke.

To get an idea of how much oil you need; the gap between the marks on the dipstick usually represents around 1 litre of oil, so you know that if your oil mark was at the minimum, you need around a litre to top it up. If it`s only halfway down, you probably need around half a litre.
Common gasoline and oil mix ratios are 50:1 and 40:1. Meaning there is 50/40 parts gasoline to one part oil when mixed. The lower the mix ratio number the more oil per volume in the gasoline. To mix properly add oil to your gas can, then add fresh gasoline from the pump.
What happens if the mixing ratios in a 2 stroke engine are incorrect? If you put too much oil, it can generate additional carbon build-up, making it difficult to start the engine, blow excessive smoke which is particularly bad for the environment and may (with time) cause the engine to stop operating correctly.
Step 1: You`ll need STIHL 2-Stroke oil, an empty and clean fuel can and fresh unleaded fuel from a reputable petrol station. Step 2: Mix at 50:1 (20mls oil per 1L fuel) when you`re using STIHL 2-Stroke oil.
This ratio indicates how much fresh, regular unleaded gasoline (containing no more than 10% ethanol) to mix with how much oil. For all Remington 2-cycle products, the ratio is 40:1. This means you`ll want to add 3.2 oz of oil to every gallon of gasoline.
Change The Oil

Check your manual for the details but it is generally recommended about once a year.

Common signs of engine oil overfill include:

Smell of burning engine oil. Smoke from the engine compartment. Smoke or black exhaust from the tailpipe. Unusual noises coming from the engine.

The average adult needs about 2,000 calories per day. In a 2,000 calorie diet, women can have 5 to 6 teaspoons of oil a day. Men can have 6 to 7 teaspoons. Measuring teaspoons of oil can help you know how much oil you get from foods.
The 50+1 rule guards against this. The name of the rule refers to the need for members of a club to hold 50 percent, plus one more vote, of voting rights – i.e. a majority. In short, it means that clubs – and, by extension, the fans – have the ultimate say in how they are run, not an outside influence or investor.
You can do that but I wouldn`t 40 to 1 means 40 parts of gas one part of oil. 50 to1 means 50 parts of gas to 1 part of oil. So the 40 to 1 mixture is more oily and provides better lubrication for your piston rings.
Blowers with Mechanical Seals:

On all 10” and larger blowers with Mechanical Seals (RGS, RGS-J & HVB), use ISO 100 oil.

Dont know what type of oil to use – Toro Power Lawn Mower
ANSWER : Put straight 30 weight motor oil in it. Not 10W30 or any multi-viscosity oil. Straight 30 weight motor oil. If you’re doing a complete oil change, then you may want to use Synthetic 30 weight, which will last longer between oil changes and also make your engine last longer (but it costs more too). Best of luck to you.James

Ms 170 leaks bar chain oil out bottom, no oil on chain
ANSWER : Your clutch drum bearing has gone bad, letting the clutch drum to move around and cut into the oiler behind it, so now it just pumps the oil out that hole. You have to get that fixed to use the saw, otherwise you’re going to cause catastrophic damage to the saw very soon.

I have a husqvarna 137 chainsaw. The problem is with the bar oil. When the saw runs oil is flowing but where the rubber corner piece which allows the oil to flow out of appears to be just dripping the oil straight out. It looks like it should fill a small reservoir behind the metal plate and the oil then moves upwards where the chains drags the oil through the oil hole on the bar which is moving outwards as in the top chain on the bar. However the chain-brake area is just getting messy with oil splattering all over and the bar not actually getting oiled. I have fitted a new metal plate to see if the corner of the original was not sealing properly but that has not helped. The bar holes are clean. Any suggestions as I can’t see what it could be?
ANSWER : It’s the rubbers. I had the same problem with my 137 and 141. The rubbers shrink over time and the oil never makes it up the channel. The replacement part is one piece and less prone to leaking than the original 2 piece design.

Where is the oil drain plug – Troy Bilt 5.5hp Self Propelled Mower
ANSWER : You probably dont have one!

The best way to drain is to warm up the engine *(to suspend the dirt and metal and get the oil flowing) Then tip the mower to the side with the oil filler with the dipstick removed. The oil just pours out!
Get a dog dish sized bowl and catch the waste oil for disposal.

Good luck and be careful!
