Usually there are two belts. One goes around two pulleys, a front pulley under the motor and one on the mower deck.
If you have an LT1000 riding mower, you may be able to do a Craftsman LT1000 belt replacement on your own. These mowers have 42-inch, heavy-duty decks, and the manufacturer`s replacement drive belt part measures 1/2 inch by 95 1/2 inches.
Most riding lawnmowers come with two belts, one for each belt. When your belt begins to wear out, you may wonder how to size it for replacement. The belt size of your mower can be decided in two ways. If the belt did not break on its own, it could be cut through with a utility knife if it was worn.

There are two belts you need to be familiar with when talking about car maintenance — the serpentine belt and the timing belt. The serpentine belt winds through your engine and carries power to several key components, including the alternator, air conditioning, and power steering pump.
The “Deck Belt” goes around the pulleys right above the blades on the deck and then to a double pulley. The “Drive Belt” on your mower goes from the transmission, around an Idler pulley then over to the double pulley I mentioned before. The Drive belt also plays a role in making the wheels turn.

I’m having trouble replaceing the motion drive belt on my LT1000 lawn tractor. The mowing deck is off, the old drive belt is off. I can’t get the belt around the transaxle pully. Any suggestions?
ANSWER : Often there is a keeper on the back of the pulley, and the belt must go inside the keeper. Get an inspection mirror up in there to look if necessary. Start by putting the belt on the transaxle pulley, then on the PTO pulley, then on the idler, last have someone sit on the mower and depress the clutch pedal while you put the belt over that pulley.

ANSWER : I do not have a diagram,but I do know where it goes.Look at the tension pulley.The arm it is mounted on move.That arm is where the spring belongs.First move the arm with your hand.pull it so that the blades are not engaged.Now the side of the arm away from the pulley and closest to the rear of the mower,is where the spring goes.There may be several holes,do not pull the spring too much,just get it in one of those holes.Then try the blades.If they do not engage,move the spring,to another hole.

Do they make a wheel kit for the deck on a LT1000?
ANSWER : These mowers are all made by just one or two companies. If you go to Lowe’s, and root around in the mower area; you will find they have two sets of generic wheel kits which seem to fit most all decks. You can pay more at a dealer or small engine shop.

ANSWER : Hello otto i would check the belt that runs to the rearend but the brakes could be also froze up i would try to jack it up & see if it will move then go from there
