How long does the gas/oil mixture last? I have some left over from last season.
Experienced gardeners share their insights in answering this question :
Okay, here’s the deal. Technically, the proper thing is to dispose of the old mixture and mix fresh each season. Now, speaking from experience, I have been able to use one batch of mixture for 2 seasons with no problems. To ensure the mix will not go south on you, it is advisable to put Stabil in the container with the mix…this will prevent the gasoline from turning into varnish…hope this helps.

Most conventional oil brands will have a shelf life of about 5 years. Synthetic oil and synthetic blend oil will last about 7-8 years, and maybe even longer. If you cannot find the expiry date, make sure you use up any half-opened or unopened motor oil bottles within 2-5 years of the manufacturing date.
Though it naturally degrades and loses combustibility over time due to oxidation and evaporation of its volatile compounds, gasoline usually lasts 3 to 6 months when properly stored in a tightly sealed gas can or metal tank that`s within the capacity limits recommended by your local fire department (usually no more …
Opinions on how long a container of pre-mixed 2 stroke fuel will last for varies significantly, some say it is only good for 3 – 4 weeks and others up to 2 – 3 months. In my experience it depends on the motor, but all motors will perform best with a full tank of freshly mixed fuel. “Fresh is best!”
Full synthetic will need to be changed every 10,000 to 15,000 miles depending on your vehicle. While synthetic blend needs to be changed every 5,000 to 7,500 miles. So synthetic may be more expensive, but it is often worth it as it offers better protection and will last longer.
You should not leave unstabilized gas in a tank for more than 30 days. After that time it will become destabilized. However, you can add a fuel stabilizer that will ensure your gas can sit for up to six months. Keep reading to learn more about fuel stabilizers for your motorcycle.
Two-stroke oil is for small, crankcase compression two-stroke engines. Commonly, it gets mixed with gasoline before being poured into the engine. Two stroke oil has a long shelf life, but it is not infinite.
The gas that can be mixed with new gas can only be three to six months old. If it has been stored for more than six months, there are some solid chances that it has gone bad.
More generic then the other, green cans are used for any and all mixed fuel. Best practice is to utilize labels to identify what is in the can.
Our red mineral engine oil is a high performance, low ash 2-stroke oil. It is specially formulated with the latest additive technology & base oil components to produce a low smoke, clean burning product.
Gasoline has a limited shelf life just like fruit or other perishable foods you`d find at your local supermarket. It will only last for about six months—if kept in ideal conditions—or possibly up to a year if a fuel stabilizer is used, but nowhere close to the 20 years that The Last of Us would have demanded.
If the gas in question isn`t in your car yet, but rather a canister, you can check if it`s old by its scent. Old gas will smell bad and have a slightly sour odor. It can also look darker and thicker than “good” gas, appearing almost mud-like.
Frying oil can be reused anywhere from two times to up to eight times — it all depends on the type of oil, what you`re frying in it, how well you`ve strained it, and more. There`s no hard and fast rule for when oil is no longer suitable for frying; instead, pay attention to your oil and detect any changes.
Simply put, the shelf life of conventional motor or “lube” oil is up to five years. It`s not something that goes bad in a couple of months. It`s impossible to predict exactly how long motor oil shelf life is because petroleum stability (how well it resists change in its properties) is situation-dependent.
The practice of topping off your oil is essentially just like it sounds — you`re adding fresh oil on top of existing oil. However, the trouble with mixing new and old oil is the new oil can become contaminated in the process or allow impurities to continue building in your engine.
It takes about 10-15 minutes after you`ve shut off the car for the engine oil to settle. Settling is just what it sounds like–all the oil that has been moving through your engine settles back into the oil pan.

When it comes to casual trail riding, 2-stroke engines should last up to 100 hours before any serious work needs to be done. Once you hit the 100-200 hour range, you`ll likely need a new bike or to do some big repairs.
Running a 2-cycle with the wrong fuel to oil mixture can cause severe damage to your engine. Running the machine without any oil mixed in the fuel can cause severe damage to your equipment within just minutes. This damage is generally very costly to repair and is usually irreparable.
Rancid oil will have a pungent, sour taste and a musty smell. If you notice these signs of spoilage, it`s time to throw your oil away. You should also discard your oil if there is mold around the seal. On the other hand, cloudiness or crystallization isn`t a sign of spoilage.
Depending on the particular engine, how hard you are running it, and so forth, a two stroke engine will run anywhere from less than a minute without oil up to as long as ten minutes or longer. The oil is either mixed with the gasoline or injected by a pump which puts in the right amount at a given rpm and load.

The prerequisite for racing a two-stroke is that you have to mix oil in your gas. It is possible to purchase pre-mixed two-stroke fuel from VP Fuels, but most racers mix their own.

There`s no reason you can`t use two cycle oil that was refined even 50 years ago, though it won`t contain the same additives as newer oil. However, you shouldn`t leave oil in your oil tank for more than a year without use. Under these circumstances, the oil can solidify and become quite gelatinous.
