One way to remove the gas is to use either a hose to siphon off the gas or a baster/pipette to remove the gas from the lawn mower gas tank to a gas can. Alternatively, the fuel line connecting the fuel tank to the carburetor can be disconnected at the carburetor and fuel emptied into a gas can.
Generator installation services experts recommend having a well-sealed gas can because it slows down the effect of oxidation. They also recommend removing the old fuel from your generator using a pump if it hasn`t been used for several months before refilling it with fresh gasoline.
Expired gasoline can damage internal components of your carburetors, deteriorate fuel lines and seals, and cause a varnish build up that could clog small fuel ports which are necessary for your machine to start and run. Fresh gasoline is essential to the proper starting and running of a machine.
Old and new gas should not be mixed for a variety of reasons, the major ones are; The old gas degrades over time it should not be added because it has already lost it`s combustibility. It can cause sputtering. It might fail to fire it up.
The next logical question after your gas light has turned on is how many miles until empty do you have before your engine shuts down? There`s no hard and fast measurement — each automaker turns the light on with different amounts of gas left in the tank — but a general rule of thumb is between 30 and 50 miles.
When you add a properly formulated fuel stabilizer and store your generator in a cool, dry place, gasoline in the fuel tank has a maximum shelf life of up to one year. However, gasoline will clog in the carburetor if it isn`t used or drained within two weeks.
Most generators use the same type of fuel (regular, unleaded) as cars. Drain your generator according to directions in your owner`s manual. Although removing the gas is highly recommended, you can store the generator with the gas inside if you use a stabilizer to prevent corrosion.
Gasoline cannot be disposed of at home and shouldn`t be poured down the drain or thrown into the trash. This includes containers that have contained gasoline. You should also not mix gas with other automotive or chemical waste.
In all these cases, it is necessary to remove the bad fuel from the tank. Not only because the vehicle will not operate as it should, but also because bad gasoline can cause damage to the internal engine components as well as produce a gummy residue that could create blockages in the fuel line.

My tractor stalls like it is starved for gas although the gas tank is full. I,ve changed the fuel filter and the gas cap. I’ve cleaned out the gas tank, gas lines, and the carburetor bowl. The problem seems more acute when the gas tank is full or near full. At this time to alleviate the problem, I blow through the gas cap and the fuel filter fills with gas and it runs good again. But as soon as the fuel filter has no more gas, of course, it stalls until I blow on the gas cap. As the tank gets down to about 1/3 full, the engine runs OK. What else could cause this condition?
ANSWER : I had a similar problem with a sears tractor. close to the carbarator is a rectangle box with a rubber hose going to the engine block – remove the hose and spray carb cleaner in the hose wait a few mins and try again – its a vacuum for the carb
