Bar and chain oil is stickier than regular motor oil, so it stays on the chain longer. Motor oil flings off the chain more quickly, so if you try Terry`s tip, be prepared to refill the oil on your chain saw more quickly than with regular bar and chain oil.
The Right Amount of Chainsaw Oil

As you apply full throttle, a thin line of oil should appear on the paper. Once you see this thin line of oil, you know your bar and chain assembly is getting the proper amount of oil.

The most common reasons why your automatic oiler isn`t working are: Your chainsaw`s oil tank is empty. The chainsaw oiler is clogged. The oil pump is broken.
Contact With The Ground

With a single contact with the ground while running, a chainsaw can become very dull. This is because the ground contains sand and dust which is abrasive and contains a lot of tiny rocks. To avoid such occurrences, avoid cutting wood placed on the ground.

The oil adjusting screw is just below the base of the chain and guide bar. Turn the screw counterclockwise toward the plus symbol, “+,” to increase the guide bar oil flow or clockwise to the minus symbol, “-,” to decrease the bar oil flow, says Garden Tools & Instruments.

Are chainsaws supposed to leak oil? To a certain extent, yes. A few drops are normal, as it`s most likely residual oil from the chain. But if there is a huge puddle or if the oil obviously isn`t coming from the chain, then something is out of order and you should investigate further.
