Find the adjustment screws on the front of the carburetor.
There should be two screws on the front of the carburetor, which are used to adjust the air and fuel mixture. These often look like flat-head screws, and you can use a screwdriver to turn them, adjusting the amount of fuel and air mixing in the carb.
Turn the high speed or main jet screw clockwise until the engine begins to slow. Then, turn the screw the other way until the engine begins to slow. Turn the screw back to the midpoint. Once adjusted, check engine acceleration by moving the throttle from idle to fast.
You can do so by adjusting the idle mixture screws to 1.5-2 turns out, and the idle speed screw to 1-1.5 turns in. Warm the Engine Up. The engine`s running temperature directly correlates with proper air and fuel mixtures. So, be sure to let the engine run and reach normal operating temperatures before proceeding.
They are typically labeled L (low speed jet), H (high speed jet), and I (idler jet). Your saw may be labeled differently (in the photos in the Gallery below, the idler jet is labeled āSā), but you`ll have three screws that correspond to these descriptions.
The carburetor`s main function is to mix the fuel with air in a perfect ratio. It does so according to the engine`s speed and load conditions. Theoretically, the ideal mixture contains 15 parts of air and 1 part of gasoline fuel. Thus, it provides the air-fuel ratio of 15:1.
Fuel screw turned in (clockwise) gives a lean mixture and turned out (anti-clockwise) gives a rich mixture. Air screw turned in gives a rich mixture and turned out (anti-clockwise) gives a lean mixture. Lean means more air, less fuel. Rich means more fuel, less air.
