Many people call us looking for a flywheel when all they really need is a ring gear. A ring gear is a removable item that is installed on the flywheel and engages with the starter drive. Most have part numbers on them. All have critical dimensions.
The best way to remove worn out gears or bearings from a shaft is to pull them off using a gear puller. These have arms that hook behind the gear or bearing and a centre screw. They are available at any local auto store and come in various sizes and designs.
One of the critical components that sits on the Engine Flywheel and engages with the pinion of starter motor to crank the engine upon Starting. Ring gear transfers starting torque from starter to engine crankshaft.
Use shims to move the ring gear closer to the pinion to decrease backlash. Use shims to move the ring gear farther from the pinion gear to increase backlash. Use shims to move the pinion closer to the ring gear to move the drive the pattern deeper on the tooth (flank contact) and slightly toward the toe.
The flywheel on a Briggs & Stratton small engine was originally developed to maintain constant angular velocity of the crankshaft. Simply, it stores the momentum from combustion to keep the crankshaft turning in between the engine`s power strokes.
The best way to remove a flywheel is to use a torque wrench set to 50 ft-lbs. Most flywheels will come off with less torque than this.
The edge of the flywheel has a row of gear teeth that engage with the engine`s starter motor. The flywheel is firmly bolted to a flange on the transmission side of the crankshaft inside the bell housing. On the side facing the manual transmission, the surface is machined flat for the clutch disc to grab onto.

Broken pullcord the pull cord on my cub cadet push mowersnaped and broken and we put it back in and know it wont wind back in
ANSWER : Yeah I got the same problem. My pull cord broke in the first season. On my own once the plastic cover is removed, 4 phillips screws, the cord housing is secured by 3 10mm nuts. Remove them and lift out the housing. On my own unit the spring had also slipped out of the mount on the shaft securing the assembly (another 10mm socket nut will loosen that) and I had to resecure that first, then wind it up before making the knot.. I used a Briggs and Stratton cord from another (truly dead) mower and have had no problems since then.

My mower blades disengage when operating.
ANSWER : Not sure of your question, but if you mean, they start when you flip the switch and then disengage but the switch stays up.. you need to check two things. (1) The out put of your alternator, read the battery with a volt meter before you start it, then start up the engine and read the voltage again should be a higher reading with the engine running. 12.4 vdc with the engine off – 13.7 vdc with it running. (just an example). Next will be your seat switch. There is a switch under the seat if you are not sitting in the seat the blades should turn off. so the switch could be out of its socket, or broken.
