Hello dan_montecar:

>>The Following is a General Instruction File I Made to Perform this Repair. If you have Any Suggestions or Remarks, then Please Let me Know. Thanks. >>**Remove the Boom/Shaft from the Engine. Remove the Mounting Bolts and the Boom and Center Drive Shaft should Slide Away from the Starter Housing Assembly. >>**On Some Model Trimmers, there is a Torx Screw Inside the Coupling Drive that has to be Removed. >>****There is also a Locking Screw on the Side of the Housing that is a Anti-Vibration Lock.****>>Using the Breakdown as a Guide Remove the Starter Housing Assembly from the Engine Assembly. >>Now Carefully/Slowly Remove the Pressure Plate Assembly from the Starter Housing. >>The Spring May have Broken and Sometimes a Section will Jump Out when the Pressure Plate Assembly is Removed from the Starter Housing. When it Jumps, it Pushes the Recoil Pulley Out Also. >>Look at the Direction of the Coil of the Spring in the Housing and Make an Arrow in the Direction of the Coil with a Magic Marker on the Inside of the Housing. >>Remove the Broken Spring and Clean the Housing with Spray Lubrication. You can Use Solvent if Required, Just be Sure to Wipe it Before Assembly with Spray Lubricant. The New Spring should come with a Retainer that Holds it in a Circle. >>If you have Removed the Spring from the Retainer, then Use a Piece of Plastic Pipe About 2″ Long that is the Same Inside Diameter as the Retainer (Slightly Smaller than the Recess that the Spring Coils Into if you Lost the Retainer). >>Coil the Spring Into the Pipe and then Set the Spring Into the Recess. Make Sure the Spring Tab of the Spring Engages the Spring Lock in the Recess. >>Use a Socket to Hold the Spring in Place and Pull the Pipe Out of the Recess. >>Lock the Pulley in Place. >>Now Turn the Pulley in the Same Direction that the Pulley would Turn if the Rope was Turning it. >>Once the Pulley will Turn No More, then Reverse Direction 1 or 2 Turns and Thread the New Rope Through the Hole in the Center of the Pulley and Out the Hole in the Blower Housing. >>Pull the Rope Through Until it is Tight Against the Pulley. Now Tie a Slip Knot in the Rope to Hold the Pulley in Place While the Handle is Attached to the Rope. >>Once the Handle is Attached, Release the Slip Knot and the Rope Should Retract Into the Housing. Reassemble the Blower Housing Onto the Engine. >>On Some Models you May have to Install the Rope Before you Lock the Pulley in Place. If So, there is a U in the Pulley that the Rope is Held in While Turning the Pulley to Tighten the Spring.
This is a Basic File and your Unit May be Slightly Different.

How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

The impact load of the steel cylinder on the recoil spring is provided by the power spring. The steel cylinder compresses the power spring to store energy. After release, the potential energy of the spring is converted to the kinetic energy of the steel cylinder.
A captive recoil spring assembly includes a guide rod surrounded by a coil spring. The spring is captured between a base at one end of the guide rod, and a body at its opposite end. The body is shaped to engage the spring at one or more sectors, leaving one or more remaining sectors free to engage the slide.
To replace the spool and line, start by removing the spool cap by pressing both spool cap release latches and pulling off the cap. Then, you can remove the old spool and replace it in the spool holder with the new spool, advises Weed Eater. Make sure the eyelets line up with the cutouts on the spool.
The pull rope on a weed eater is used to start the engine. The pull rope is located in the starter cord housing on the rear of the weed eater engine housing. Through normal use the pull rope can become worn or damaged causing it to break.
The pull rope of a weed eater can become too tight to tug, making it difficult or impossible to start the machine. When this issue occurs, the rope is either twisted or jammed on the rope rotor, which prevents it from moving without excessive force.
A spring that is placed at the rear of the bolt of a automatic or semi automatic gun, that is utilized to take in or contain the recoil. The recoil spring is needed to absorb the shock of when a bullet is fired and the firearm pulls back towards the user so as to lessen the reaction of impact the user receives.
The recoil starter is the pull-start mechanism on the back of the engine that enables you to start your snow blower or lawnmower. The starter cord is also called a starter rope.
The force, called the restoring force, is positive when x is negative (spring is compressed) and negative when x is positive (spring is extended).
F = -kx. The proportional constant k is called the spring constant. It is a measure of the spring`s stiffness. When a spring is stretched or compressed, so that its length changes by an amount x from its equilibrium length, then it exerts a force F = -kx in a direction towards its equilibrium position.
Two distinct types of recoil-operated working systems for firearms exist: the “Short recoil” and the “Long recoil”. In this context, “short” and “long” refer to the relative length of the recoil path that barrel and breech block follow together before unlocking.
Assembly Springs

Typically assemblies include combinations of springs, wire forms, stampings, shafts, pistons, tubing, seals, bearings, machined components, and molded plastic parts.

The most common reason for the cord refusing to rewind is a broken or worn out recoil spring. This tiny spring hooks onto the pulley and is stretched out when you pull the cord; when you let go the spring is meant to snap back to its original position.
Unbreakable and Reliable: diamondcord is the world`s strongest and most durable pull start cord, designed using patented technology that is five times stronger than steel. Say goodbye to broken cords and eliminate downtime and inconvenience.
Most engines use a re-coil starter (sometimes called rewind starter). The pull-cord is attached to a pulley and spring in a case on top of the flywheel housing.
Pull the plastic housing of the electric plug to take it out of the wall socket; never pull on the cord. Do not overload electric outlets with too many items plugged in at once.
Springs subject to higher stresses, such as recoil springs, will require more frequent replacement than other less stressed springs. Most quality OEM and replacement recoil springs should be capable of a minimum of 3,000 to 5,000 firing cycles before changing.

It has been proven that too light a recoil spring can cause inconsistent lock-up, which can result in reduced accuracy. Remember, for any semi-auto to be accurate, the barrel must lock-up consistently, shot to shot. The correct recoil spring will ensure a positive lock-up.

Weed eater will not run in high speed but will idle
ANSWER : Lack of fuel is my first thought. Check to be sure the trigger control is working at the carb. From there I would suspect plugged fuel line or plugged carb, (most likely contaminated fuel) either way I would suggest someone that knows about these. Hope this helps

What ratio of oil and gas do I mix together? How do you start it? I bought the weed eater used.
ANSWER : If you bought it used, you can bet that they didn’t run it out of fuel before they stored it, so the gas evapoated out of the carb and all that was left was oil, so mix your fuel 8 to one eight parts gas and one part oil, you’ll have to hit the primer botton several times.

Will not start – Poulan/Weed Eater #Wt200 711724 24cc Gas Blower/Vac
ANSWER : You may have several issues with this unit. The fuel filter may be clogged, carburetor may be clogged; spark plug may have gone bad; gas mixture may be bad; Before I invest alot of time and money; take it to a shop and have them do a compression test on the engine.. If it is below 100 psi, you might as well send to the recycler and go buy a new one. The cost of repairs would exceed the cost of a new one.

How do i install the blades on my weed eater so i dont have to use string anymore
ANSWER : There are many options out there but pretty much all of them require you to completly remove the line trimming head and screw on an aftermarket device. I use the bruch hog, the line trimmer and one with three nylon blades that are replacable (from Menards) and all work well but you do have to replace the blade too so it will not be the end all. If you are going through a lot of line may I suggest you run the trimmer at about 1/4 speed or just enough to do the job, it really saves a lot of line and frustration.
