How do i prime my pond filter and pump

ANSWER : It depends on the pump but most pumps have a filter bowl with a screw on cover – you need to fill this with water and start the pump. if the pipework connected to the pump and the filter are empty you will usually have to repeat this process a few times, but once the pump is primed it should start up without repriming in future – Hope this helps – Nigel

ANSWER : Im gonna guess that you stored the filter improperly off season and now the sand charge is hard as cement inside not alowing water to get thru , left alone for a week or so it might loosen up , but the best thing is to dissasemble filter and remove all sand and ck “fingers” inside this is fastest way
i allways use RV antifreeze 30/1 to store any pumps or filters off season , RV type because its nontoxic

ANSWER : I had this issue on a hayward. Bottom line, look at the secondary filter on the intake. I had a huge amount of leaves in there. When you open it up clean the basket and let the water flow for a minute. Also, back wash your filter.

ANSWER : Without more info it’s hard to say. This could be something as simple as a dirty lid “o” ring, if it is streched out or cracked you will need a new one. If not you can clean with dish soap then when you relube “o” ring use teflon or silicone grease then wipe excess off as this excess will collect dirt, also clean lip of pump pot also. If this is not the problem then you may need to replumb pump or replace seal. When you loose prime if the pump runs for any lenigth of time the water left in pot will overheat and cause plumbing to warp or seal falure.

First check your fittings, next carefully run water over the pump seals (avoid getting water on the motor or you’ll hurt yourself and the pump if not worse) the pump will prime if the leaking seal is covered with water. Take your time and be careful and it should only be a matter of a loose fitting or simple seal swap.

ANSWER : There are no adjustments for pump. Amount of water it will pump is set by pump design. The way I read your posting is the pump picks up prime but not enough delivery. Check your connections (pipes) make sure your not sucking air on any of them. check for obstructions in discharge. Are you sure the water source will handle a pump this size? Its possible also the foot valve is stuck.
