It`s a good idea to replace the batteries in your solar lights regularly; perhaps every year or two. Almost all garden solar lights use low capacity rechargeable batteries. More recently, solar lights will use 1.2V NiMH (Nickel Metal Hydride) batteries. These newer NiMH batteries replace the old style NiCd version.
Most of the times, yes you can, if it physically fits and has the same voltage. Itwill last longer and take longer to recharge. Beware, given the size and type, you`ll find that most batteries declared for capacity much higher than average have in fact fake capacity and won`t last more than the original one.
More stored energy equals more talk time between charges. So the answer is the 600mah will work if the battery has the same battery number (which equates to same voltage, battery physical size, and plug type) and will provide more talk time than your old 400mah battery.
One of the most widely asked questions is if solar light batteries in solar lights are replaceable. The short answer to this question is yes, these rechargeable batteries in solar lights can be replaced after prolonged use.
You can always replace faulty batteries with higher mAh, different from the defaults. That is, the myth of high-capacity batteries in phones are unsuitable for replacement is not entirely correct.
A: Yes. Mah is the capacity of the battery, so this just means a 700mah battery will hold a charge longer than a 300mah battery. Helpful? Thank you for your feedback!
So, can you put regular batteries in solar lights? Actually no. Regular batteries like alkaline-based batteries are not a good choice for solar lights, mainly because they are designed to be disposed of when they run out of juice. These batteries obtain energy from the zinc metal and manganese dioxide reaction.
Sometimes your lights just don`t last as long as they once did and this is typically caused by batteries dying. With commercial solar lights, the batteries should last five to seven years if properly sized for the application.
In case your solar light does not stay on for long, then it is most likely due to degraded batteries which are not performing well after being used for a long time. You can fix this issue by getting new batteries for your solar lights.

Replace those batteries

A sign this might be happening to your lights is reduced runtime in the evening, even after a sunny day. Good batteries should last for 1 – 2 years or more before they need replacing but this is only a guide.
