What is the ratio for 2-stroke fuel mix? Most modern petrol garden machinery requires a 50:1 ratio mix of petrol to oil. This means for every 1 litre of petrol you must mix 20ml of oil.
Mixing Your Fuel

Your strimmer runs off a mix of semi-synthetic 2-stroke oil and unleaded petrol (40:1). Our petrol tools come with a measuring jug with guide lines. Find the side marked 40:1, add your petrol to the first line and your 2-stroke oil to the second.

Unlike a four-stroke engine, a unique feature of a two-stroke engine is that they do not have an internal oil reservoir. Instead, two-stroke engines require the owner to mix oil into the fuel at a predetermined ratio in order to ensure the engine receives adequate lubrication during operation.
Mixing ratios

For a mixing ratio of 1 : 50 you need 5 litres of petrol and 0.10 litres (100cm³) of STIHL two-stroke oil.

For a mixing ratio of 1 : 50 you need 5 litres of high-octane gas and 0.10 litres (100 ml) of STIHL two-stroke oil.
Most modern chainsaws, string trimmers, leaf blowers and other small-engine two-stroke equipment recommend a 50:1 oil mix ratio, but some recommend 40:1 and older two-stroke equipment might even call for 32:1.

For a mixing ratio of 1 : 50 you need 5 litres of petrol and 0.10 litres (100cm³) of STIHL two-stroke oil.

What happens if the mixing ratios in a 2 stroke engine are incorrect? If you put too much oil, it can generate additional carbon build-up, making it difficult to start the engine, blow excessive smoke which is particularly bad for the environment and may (with time) cause the engine to stop operating correctly.
1:25 = 1 part oil + 25 parts petrol, or 40 ml oil per litre of petrol when using other brands of oil. Any two-stroke engine oil you use in your petrol gardening tool must have the TC classification.
Common gasoline and oil mix ratios are 50:1 and 40:1. Meaning there is 50/40 parts gasoline to one part oil when mixed. The lower the mix ratio number the more oil per volume in the gasoline. To mix properly add oil to your gas can, then add fresh gasoline from the pump.
Running a 2-cycle with the wrong fuel to oil mixture can cause severe damage to your engine. Running the machine without any oil mixed in the fuel can cause severe damage to your equipment within just minutes. This damage is generally very costly to repair and is usually irreparable.
Some lawn mowers have two-stroke engines, and these require oil in a different way than four-stroke engines. All two-stroke engines burn gasoline and oil at the same time. In the case of lawn mowers, two-stroke engine oil is mixed with the gasoline before it goes into the tank.
Use a 32:1 gasoline to oil ratio. One gallon of gasoline combined with 4 oz of two-cycle engine oil.
Husqvarna two stroke engines are designed to run on clean, fresh, unleaded petrol. A fuel / oil ratio of 50:1 is recommended for all Husqvarna 2-stroke products. Also consider; 50:1 (2%) fuel / oil mix ratio is recommended with the use of genuine Husqvarna two-stroke oil for best performance.
Use a 40:1 two-cycle oil mix ratio. One gallon of gasoline combined with 3.2 oz of two-cycle engine oil. Unsure of the age of your equipment? Use the 40:1 mixture.
For a mixing ratio of 1 : 50 you need 5 litres of high-octane gas and 0.10 litres (100 ml) of STIHL two-stroke oil.

My Lawn mower seems to be produced by ALKO, but has the Briggs and Stratton emblem also. It is the 40b model and having just inherited it, I am trying to find out if I put just petrol in or whether I need an oil additive. If I need oil, which do I need? the mower works on unleaded, but not sure if this requires 2 or 4 stroke oil and at what mixture. Please help(aaaagggghhhh!!!!)
ANSWER : Hi scottcoles5…
The easy way to find out if the motor is 2 or 4 cycle is to check to see if the engine has oil in the crankcase…if it does it is a 4 cycle and you will NOT have to mix oil with your gas. 2 cycle engines do NOT have an oil in the crancase and depend on the oil you mix with your gasoline.
You can also check the color of the gasoline in the tank, most 2 cycle oils contain a colorant to color the gas to let you know there is oil in the gas…

Hi, I have a Masport 635 Lawn mower, I think it is 2 stroke, just petrol ( not mixed with oil ). I don’t know anything about how to maintain mowers. But today I mowed the back yard, it went fine, then turned it off then went to do front yard, the mower would not start again, I left it for about 15 minutes each time I tried again. It still won’t go, it has petrol in it. What else do I need to do ? I can’t find anywhere to check oil as like a car, I don’t know what the air filter looks like, but all I know is the Spark Plug. I hope you can help me.
thanks 🙁
ANSWER : If it is two stroke it must have oil mixed in with it. Try pulling the cord and notice if there is any compression if not then it is the pistion and if it doesn’t turn then it is seized with lack of oil.Now if it is four stroke take the plug out put it to the head and pull the cord to see if there is any spark if there is it’s a fuel problem.
