As with most gas-powered lawn mowers, hold down the handlebar and pull the cord. Then pull up on the drive lever to engage the drive system. For a battery-powered motor, push the start button and pull on the handle to start moving forward.
Self-propelled lawnmowers work on a vehicle-like drive system that requires the operator to squeeze a bar (called a “bail”) on the handle to engage the mower. Squeezing the bar causes the cutting blades on a self-propelled rotary mower to spin and makes the mower take off.
So can you push a self-propelled lawnmower? You can push a self-propelled lawnmower, it won`t damage the transmission in any way. However, it may be difficult to do so, self propelled mowers are a little heavier than a regular push mower.
Self-propulsion is the autonomous displacement of nano-, micro- and macroscopic natural and artificial objects, containing their own means of motion. Self-propulsion is driven mainly by interfacial phenomena.
Front-wheel drive self-propelled mowers are generally the least expensive option. These machines perform well on flat surfaces and turn easier than their rear-wheel drive counterparts. Rear-wheel drive self-propelled mowers are a bit harder to turn around obstacles, but they excel at climbing hills.
Inspect the V-belt for damage and replace it with a new one if necessary. Damaged control cable – A broken, or misadjusted, control cable will prevent the mower from self-propelling as well. If the cable is intact but doesn`t move freely, you can try applying a small amount of lubrication to the cable.
All motorized mowers have a safety bar that must be squeezed to engage the motor and make the cutting blades spin. Self-propelled mowers have an additional bar that, much like the gas pedal in a car, has to be squeezed for the mower`s wheels to engage and for the mower to begin to drive.
This is a term Hayter use for their self-propelled lawnmowers, and is simply another name for self-propulsion.
Most self propelled mowers utilize a solid shaft drive transfer system that turns the drive axle to both wheels simultaneously. If the drive loss is only in one wheel, the problem is likely a trapped, broken, or missing part within the drive ratchet or gear system of the non-functioning wheel.

You dont adjust the belt, you adjust the cable that moves the pulley into the belt. There will be a small single bracket close to the engine side of the mower that holds the cable in place. Simply loosen bracket and move cable until pulley contacts belt enough to engage self propel.
