Unless you`ve run pump saver through it, your pressure washer pump could freeze and crack if left where temperatures drop below freezing. If your garage or storage shed gets cold, you must add a pump saver product like Pump Guard to keep the pump from freezing and cracking.
Pressure Washer Pump Saverâ„¢ Protects pressure washer pumps against freezing for safe cold weather storage. Provides longer pump life, maintains seals and pistons, and prevents harmful buildup of hard mineral deposits on interior pump surfaces.
Pump Guard is perfect for storing your pressure washer for more than 30 days. It protects the pump and other components from damage caused by the cold temperatures to -25 degrees F. Minimizes harmful corrosion by lubricating valves, seals and pistons to prevent sticking. This will ideally protect pumps between uses.
No matter how powerful your pressure washer might be, it`s never a good idea to leave your machine running for too long because doing so will increase the risk that it will overheat. Instead, most professionals suggest using a pressure washer in intervals of three to five minutes.
Winterizing your pressure washer is necessary to prevent water from freezing in the pump, as frozen water could permanently damage it. If your pressure washer is to be stored for two months or more, some precautions need to be taken.
General Alternative: Synthetic Oil

Synthetic oil works well as a replacement for the store-bought commercial oil inside your pressure washer pump. It protects the pump from all conditions and reduces oil consumption while also enhancing the pressure washer`s start-up performance.

Attach the Garden Hose

Once a nozzle is selected, connect the pressure washer to the water supply line with a garden hose. Be sure the hose is connected to your home`s water supply. Connect the hose to the pressure washer`s water inlet.

To connect the garden hose to the pressure washer, you will need to use an adapter. The most common type of adapter is the brass garden hose swivel adapter. This type of adapter has a male and female end that can be screwed onto the pressure washer and garden hose respectively.
The heart of every pressure washer is its electric motor, which drives the pump system [1]. In order for the pumps to work correctly, they need water, which is provided, for example, by a garden hose [2].
Your new pump must be compatible with your pressure washer. You can`t replace your pump with any pump you wish, because they just won`t fit. Determine if your pressure washer uses an axial or triplex pump.
Therefore, to control the flow of a centrifugal pump, simply set the output pressure to the point on the P-V diagram that allows the pump to deliver the desired flow rate. The output pressure of the pump is set using a back pressure regulator. Once the pressure is set, the flow rate to the process is established.

What oil do i use in the pump? The oil is milky and needs changing.
ANSWER : Well you can use direct recommended from Ace Hardware see link.

They recommend 250 hours, but i’d change more often, like you said when it’s milky. If it begins to get water in the oil sooner, that indicates your piston to crankcase seal is beginning to leak.
