I beleive every time you unhook your battery on a generator system you have to flash it to set the polarity . Also I think all delco 6 volts were pos ground . But this video from youtube should help you get it working. Polarizing Your Delco Remy Generator on Farmall SA Super

Voltage Polarity of DC Generator

Depending on direction of rotation of the rotor, the output voltage will be positive or negative. To demonstrate the polarity of the output voltage, two Light Emitting Diodes (LED), a red and a green LEDs, were connected in opposite polarities to the motor contacts.

The polarity of induced e.m.f. in a generator can be reversed by reversing either the direction of rotation or field winding connection.
Start the engine and temporarily ground the Field terminal at either the regulator or generator. Speed up the idle speed and watch your dashboard ammeter. If it shows no charge, the generator is defective. if it shows a heavy charge the regulator is faulty.
Read the number on the voltmeter to see the output in volts.

The number displayed is how many volts of power your generator is putting out. For example, if your generator has a 120-volt output, the display should show 120 volts or very close to that number, unless there is a problem with your generator.

There are three key wires in the loop: a positive wire for the battery, a sensing wire for voltage, and an igniting wire. The ignition input wire is linked to the engine. The energy detection cable monitors voltage and transmits it to the converter, while the energy wire links the alternator and the engine.
Whenever a generator or a generator regulator is tested, repaired, or replaced, the generator must be polarized. If this is not done, the generator may be damaged and the regulator contacts burned. Reversed polarity will discharge the battery – or damage it.

Adding capacitors as filters under such situation will reduce the distortion of the current waveform and will improve the power factor. Following table can be referred for relationship between current harmonics distortion and power factor which can be attained using shunt capacitors.
Polarization is a procedure that matches the polarity of the generator and that of the voltage regulator to make sure they are working and charging the same. In other words, making sure the generator and voltage regulator are working together and not against each other.

Install a new selenoid & I hook up the battery, And the tractor want to start??? I think the wireing is hook up Okay. Don
ANSWER : Hey don,

The key switch supplies power to the coil, it has nothing to do with the cranking circit. When you press the start button it supplies power to the solinoid, that in turn activates the starter motor. You can crank the engine even if you dont have power to the coil. Which is what I think you have happening. On the coil it has two small wire under two small nuts with a big wire in the middle going to the distributor. The two small wires are marked with a + and -, The + side should have 12v with the key turned on and 0v with it in the off position. The – Negitive side goes to the points. Check the points for burned, stuck, worn out lob on cam, if you have no spark. If you have spark, you need to address the fuel, Try spraying carburetor cleaner ( not either) into the carburetor to see if it fires then quits, this proves you have a fuel issue.

Make sure your battery is fully charged, and that the ground is a good one.

Hope this helps
