The carburetor might be clogged and needs to be cleaned.
A chainsaw`s carburetor mixes air and fuel to start the internal combustion engine. If fuel has been left in the engine for too long, it can become sticky and clog the carburetor, preventing it from starting. If the clog is minor, clean out the carburetor.
If the chainsaw won`t start, or starts and then stops and you find the spark plug wet with fuel mixture, it means that the engine is flooded (you will probably smell petrol). It happens when too much fuel enters the combustion chamber, possibly because you have pressed the primer many times.
Before you install the new spark plug confirm that the spark gap is at manufacturer`s specifications. This chainsaw model requires a 25 thousandths of an inch gap.
Bad Spark Plugs
If the engine holds compression well, and the fuel system is working correctly, but it still won`t start, that tells us that your car`s spark plugs may not be working. The spark plugs ignite the air/fuel mixture inside the engine`s cylinders. It`s the resulting explosion that actually powers your car.
One tell-tale sign that a chainsaw has flooded is the smell of fresh petrol near the muffler. To ascertain whether this is indeed the problem, simply disassemble the part, pull the starter cord as if you were switching on the engine, then dry it, reassemble it and try switching it on again.
The most obvious sign of faulty spark plug wires is your vehicle just feels a little `off. ` It would probably start slowly with reduced gas mileage but could progress to no acceleration. Faulty spark plug wires or spark plug misfires can also cause problems starting your engine, a rough idle, and loss of power.
Check the spark plug wires: Make sure that the spark plug wires are properly connected to the new spark plugs and the ignition coils. If they are not connected properly, your vehicle won`t start. 2. Check the battery: Ensure that your car`s battery is fully charged and in good condition.
The gap setting is different for each vehicle but most are somewhere between 0.028″ and . 060″. Consult the owner`s manual or Champion ® catalog to find the recommended setting for the vehicle you`re working on.
Spark plug gaps for car engines are typically 0.6 to 1.8 mm (0.024 to 0.071 in).
The air/fuel mixture is ignited by a spark from the spark plug. Although gasoline is the most common transportation fuel, there are alternative fuel options that use similar components and engine systems.
In a spark ignition engine, the fuel is mixed with air and then inducted into the cylinder during the intake process. After the piston compresses the fuel-air mixture, the spark ignites it, causing combustion. The expansion of the combustion gases pushes the piston during the power stroke.
The two most common reasons a chainsaw won`t idle are a blocked air filter and an idle screw out of adjustment. Other possible causes include: Dirty Air Filter. Idle Screw out of Adjustment.
Dead Engine
Finally, your vehicle might not start because of the battery, alternator, starter, fuel filter, or the fuel pump. All of these things play a role in getting your vehicle started. If the pump is dead, you won`t be able to get gas into the combustion chamber to start the car.
If an engine cranks but refuses to start, it lacks ignition, fuel or compression. Was it running fine but quit suddenly? The most likely causes here would be a failed fuel pump, ignition module or broken overhead cam timing belt.

I just started up my new 16″ Homelite and the engine starts, but the mechanism that powers the chainsaw isn’t rotating… any suggestions?
ANSWER : The engine needs to be accelerated to make the chain turn. The chain should not be so tight on the bar that you can’t turn it by hand. Make sure the chain brake is off by pulling back on the brake paddle which has a ‘toggle’ effect–it should snap over to the new position. If still having problems, it is time to return for warranty exchange or repair. Hope this helps!

Homelite d3350b what is fuel oil mix i was told i could use 50 to 1 because the new oils are better?????
ANSWER : Buy a good quality oil and mix it to the OIL manufacturers recommendation regardless of what the chainsaw manual says. If you are poking around the barn and find an old can of Homelite 2 cycle oil that says mix 25:1 mix it at that ratio.
All modern oils, chainsaws, and the EPA recommend 50:1. There has been great improvement in 2 cycle technology over the years. To rich a mix causes carbon build up on the piston that breaks loose and scores the piston and cylinder, and it stinks!
