The year 1963 saw the introduction of the world`s first “lightweight” chainsaw, the magnesium-alloy framed Homelite XL-12; the numeral twelve denoting that the power-head weighed a mere twelve pounds. This saw is widely regarded as one of the most recognizable and well-known chainsaws of all time.

Manufacturing. Although the manufacturing of Homelite products originated in the United States, after the acquisitions of the company, its products are now manufactured in China at a plant owned by Techtronic Industries. The company`s chainsaws are still considered some of the most durable models on the market.
The Super 2 has a larger (1.9 cubic inch- 31.14cc) engine and is, therefore, available with a choice of 14-inch or 16-inch capacity bar and chain.
Specs: Engine: 42cc two-cycle. Powerhead Weight: 9.8 lbs.
The engine in the Homelite XL Chain Saw displaces 58.2 cc and has one cylinder. The bore is 1.8 inches and the stroke is 1.4 inches.
The 2-stroke 37cc engine is tough enough to handle all branches, firewood, and other common sawing applications. The lightweight construction makes it ideal to use around the workshop, garden, and on campsites.
Up for sale is an original 1978 Homelite XL-76 chainsaw. This saw runs very well, but does show some carbon scoring on the piston (see final photo and video for more details).
