Tecumseh Power Company MODEL NUMBER LOOKUP

The model number (marked with red box in photo) on a Tecumseh engine can be found on the engine ID label, typically located under the engine cover. The label will also include other pertinent Tecumseh engine information such as the specification number and date of manufacture.

On our new labels, the serial number will include: > The country of origin (e.g. 52 for Tecumseh Europe), > the date of manufacture, a letter indicates the month, the next two digits indicate the day and the final two digits the year (e.g. K2604 for 26 November 2004), > a manufacturing line and team number (e.g. 20 ), …
Most carburetors have a unique identification number that can be used to confirm its make, model, and specifications. The carburetor number is typically located on a metal tag attached to the carburetor. On most aftermarket carburetors, this ID is stamped or etched directly onto the carburetor body.
It`s like a “VIN” for your carburetor and should be hand-stamped on the front of the choke tower to the right of the vent tube on most typical Holley carbs. The list number typically is four to six digits long and may or may not have a suffix number behind it. The date code will be right below it.
Where can I find my serial number? The engine serial number is on a metal plate attached to the block, typically found on the left-hand side of the engine. The position of the engine plate varies across different engine series.
The engine number is found on the body of the car`s engine. Car manufacturers ensure that the number is clearly visible. It is imprinted on a metal sticker and placed in such a way that it is easy to see when you open the hood.
The 1st three numbers of your serial number will always provide your manufacture date. The 1st number is the YEAR of manufacture; the 2nd & 3rd numbers indicate the MONTH of manufacture.
Genuine Briggs and Stratton part number 799868 Carburetor.
Carburetors are used to mix fuel and air together before sending the mix into the engine cylinders for ignition, powering the vehicle. The carburetor sits atop the engine block beneath the air filter, and operates using a combination of vacuum power and cable control.

Replacing a connecting rod on snowblower engine
ANSWER : That project requires a complete engine disassembly, but it’s very probably not worth doing – the broken rod probably did so much damage to the crankcase and crankshaft and piston and cylinder that it’d be far far cheaper just to replace the engine.

Mower runs at high idle no matter how the carb is adjusted
ANSWER : The carburetor is probably not the issue. There is a spring attached to the carburetor, the tab that it is attached to will control the engine “idle”speed. Adjust it lower for the mower to run at a slower speed. You should only need a pair of long pliers to do this.
I hope this helps.
If you have tried this and it is still not running correctly please click on add comment to let me know what you have tried. Thank you and I hope this helps.

I have a Toro Lawn Mower with a Tecumseh LV148EA-362003C engine.
It is Idleing very high and can’t seem to adjust it down. How do i do that and what would be the cause
ANSWER : I could not find a listing for the full engine model number, but there are a lot of engines that start with LV148EA. The good news is that I glanced at the part number for the carburetor on about a half dozen of these engines and they all use the same carburetor. Assuming that you have the same carburetor on yours that the others have, I was able to pull up an illustrated parts drawing for the carburetor. By studying this drawing and a TecumsehPower carburetor manual I was able to determine that you should have a Series 11.I have been doing some research on your problem, before you mess with any adjustments you should check a few of other things first. One is to check that the bowl gasket is not bad. Two is to check that the fuel pickup is not restricted. Three is to check that the idle port is not restricted. The first one requires just taking the bowl off to look at. The others require removing the carburetor to inspect and clean. If none of those remedies corrects the problem, then it should be time to adjust the screws.I hope this helps.

Tecumseh 4.5 hp engine won't start – Mtd 22" Yard Machine Push Mower
ANSWER : First thing to check on a Tecumseh; pull the half inch bowl nut (main jet) out of the bottom of the carburetor. Give it a good cleaning with carb cleaner then pay special attention to the teeny tiny hole that is right at the very top of the threads. It’s so small you can hardly see it and if it clogs, your mower won’t start. Best of luck to you.
