f the cowling and find there are no adjustment screws for the carborator, only a overspeed damper that is activated by air movement from the fan blades on the top of the crankshaft. If i tip the edger up, it seems to run faster, but level, it just hasn’t got enuf power to cut grass and just stalls.

Experienced gardeners share their insights in answering this question :
First, can you check to see if the throttle cable is actually operating the butterfly valve in the carb? Secondly, can you drain the fuel and remove the carburetor bowl and clean it and especially clean the brass bolt that holds the bowl on…as it is the main jet and may be partially clogged…Try squirting carb cleaner into the carb with the filter off while it is running (idling) and check the condition of that filter. Introdue a fuel additive to the gas tank, like Lucas or Berryman or Sea Foam…they will only clean and help this engine to run better. Post back with any changes.
How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?
We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :
If the engine will idle but dies at full throttle the main jet in the carburetor may be plugged. You can repair a plugged main jet by cleaning it, replacing the jet, or replacing the carburetor. If you choose to clean or replace the main jet, you will also want to clean the rest of the carburetor.
A full gas tank and oil reservoir are the essential first steps when checking why the lawn mower won`t stay running, but the problem could also be a dirty filter, clogged carburetor, improper fuel mixture, or a dirty spark plug.
If your trimmer engine idles, but stalls on throttle, check the following parts: the gasket, primer bulb, fuel filter, air filter, fuel vent, fuel line, and carburetor. The repair and symptom guide will help you better identify the part needed to be replaced and how.
Governor springs hold the throttle in the desired maximum speed.
When should I replace the edger blade? A: Edger blades vary in length from 8 to 10 inches when new, so you should be able to go through a season without replacing the blade. However, if you are using your edger more frequently, performance will start to deteriorate after the blade reaches half its original size.
A Dirty Carburetor Can Cause a Lawnmower To Start Then Die
By far, the most common issue that causes a stalled motor is a dirty carburetor. The carburetor on your engine is the thing that draws in air and mixes it with the fuel. Contrary to what the movies might make you think, gasoline itself is not very flammable.
A: The first thing I would check is your air filter. It is common this time of year for air filters to become clogged with dust particles thus preventing appropriate air flow. This can gradually make your lawn mower sluggish and difficult to start.

Have an edger with the B&S 98902 4cycle gas motor. it won’t run any faster than idle, no matter where the throttle cable is set. If i tip the edger up, it seems to run faster, but level, it just hasn’t got enuf power to cut grass and just stalls.

How do i set idle for 25cc gas trimmer? – Craftsman 25cc Gas Line Trimmer
ANSWER : James is right about setting the idle mixture.
Do you want to set the idle speed?
That can be done with the screw that sits on top the carb and holds the throttle stop. Just work the throttle while looking at the end of the cable at the carb and you will see something stopping it at idle that has a screw in it. Move this screw in or out to adjust idle speed.
If you dont have good throttle response off idle you should adjust the hi speed mixture at wide open throttle and then go back and do the low speed changes. Mixture and then speed adjust.
The edger is not cutting very well. Any tips to make it work better?
ANSWER : You said cutting, not running, so I suggest removing the blade and sharpening on a grinder or buying a replacement blade.I hope you find this very helpful.
The tines on a honda f220 always spin and don’t change speed when clutch is engaged but speed up when throttle is increased. Adjusted cable with no luck.
ANSWER : I believe that unit utilizes a centrifical clutch. try decreasing the idle speed and see if the tines stop. They should then engage as throttle is increased.
I have a newer model Husquarna chainsaw. When I give it extra gas it stalls in the sweet spot. If I give it max gas it cuts off. When I try to saw it wants to cut off also. I changed the gas and tried that but still it is stalling.
ANSWER : You need to set the mixtures for the carburetor. You will find a Low and High adjustment screw. At idle turn the screw in or clockwise until the rps starts to decrease. Then start turning it out till you hit max idle rpms. Turn screw back in a quarter to half turn and it should be idling smoothly. Be careful here and get someone to hold saw if necessary but hold in throttle to full speed and do the same with high adjustment screw. turn it in till rpm starts to drop then back it out until you get to max rpm and it won’t go any higher then turn it back in a half a turn. If you have to change the high rpm jet a lot you might have to go back and readjust the low rpm jet again and set the idle speed. Never idle it high enough that the chain turns while at idle.
We used to have to do this a lot in timber business. You go up on the mountain to cut logs and the altitude has high enough that you had to adjust carburetor and then do it again when you got back to the sawmill.

HOW DO YOU ADJUST HIGH AND LOW SPEEDS ON HOMELITE BLOWER UTO8087 IF ONLY 1 SCREW ADJUSTMENT. 1 PORT FAC. PLUGED OFF.WHAT SHOULD IDLE RPM LOW B APPROX./ HIGH RPM
ANSWER : All the pictures I have of this carb show two adjusting screws.
My tractor stalls like it is starved for gas although the gas tank is full. I,ve changed the fuel filter and the gas cap. I’ve cleaned out the gas tank, gas lines, and the carburetor bowl. The problem seems more acute when the gas tank is full or near full. At this time to alleviate the problem, I blow through the gas cap and the fuel filter fills with gas and it runs good again. But as soon as the fuel filter has no more gas, of course, it stalls until I blow on the gas cap. As the tank gets down to about 1/3 full, the engine runs OK. What else could cause this condition?
ANSWER : I had a similar problem with a sears tractor. close to the carbarator is a rectangle box with a rubber hose going to the engine block – remove the hose and spray carb cleaner in the hose wait a few mins and try again – its a vacuum for the carb
