Diesel engines have many advantages over gasoline engines. In fact, they are far superior. To begin with, diesel tractors are more powerful. Diesel engines typically have their peak horsepower at about 1,000-1,500 rpm and horsepower stays up throughout most of the rpm range.
Increased Durability

Diesel engines are widely considered more durable than their gas-powered counterparts. One of the biggest reasons is that diesel engines are water cooled. Paired with consistent operating speeds, this puts less wear and tear on the engine, providing a longer lifespan.

2 cycle lawn-boy self propelled 6.5 hp Gold Pro series Dura Force engine has a rpm surge problem—engine varies in speed up and down every second or so. Throttle setting has no effect on the problem but once in a while the engine will run steady and not oscillate rpms up and dowm.
the linkage to the governor is operating. Which comes first the engine slows causing the governor to increase its speed or the governor senses too much wind and closes down the garburator?

i am not sure but I think that I remember controling the action of the rod to the carburator with my finger and the engine rpm remained steady.

my first thought was a fuel/carburator problem but now I am wondering about the watch like spring that controls the return tension of the governor linkage.

My tractor stalls like it is starved for gas although the gas tank is full. I,ve changed the fuel filter and the gas cap. I’ve cleaned out the gas tank, gas lines, and the carburetor bowl. The problem seems more acute when the gas tank is full or near full. At this time to alleviate the problem, I blow through the gas cap and the fuel filter fills with gas and it runs good again. But as soon as the fuel filter has no more gas, of course, it stalls until I blow on the gas cap. As the tank gets down to about 1/3 full, the engine runs OK. What else could cause this condition?
ANSWER : I had a similar problem with a sears tractor. close to the carbarator is a rectangle box with a rubber hose going to the engine block – remove the hose and spray carb cleaner in the hose wait a few mins and try again – its a vacuum for the carb
