If your lawn mower battery won`t hold a charge, verify connections are clean and tight first, then connect it to the charger. If it isn`t fully charged within 8 hours, your battery is dead and you`ll need to replace it. If your lawn mower battery does charge fully, the charge should not drain if it is not in use.
Listen for a Clicking Sound Starting up your lawnmower can tell you a lot about its health. Grab the pull cord or turn the key in the ignition. For the easiest alternator test, simply turn on the headlights to your lawn mower or outdoor power equipment. Then, turn off the engine. If the lights dim, the alternator works. If not, it doesn`t.

A new lawn battery should last between three and five years. In order to achieve that, however, it`s important to perform regular maintenance. Here are a few tips to help you get the longest life possible out of your battery.
You can also attempt to recover the battery by overcharging the fully charged battery using a low amp trickle charger. Charge the battery for 24 hours using a regulated current of 200mA (milliAmps). This will boost the battery`s terminal voltage to 2.50-2.66 volts per cell and raise the battery`s internal temperature.
Make sure your alternator`s positive and negative terminals are clean. Put the multimeter`s black cable to the negative terminal and the red cable to the positive terminal. Look for an ideal alternator reading of around 12.6. Start the car, and look for a reading of between 14.2 and 14.7.
This can be caused by overcharging, undercharging, or leaving the battery in a discharged state for too long. A battery that doesn`t hold a charge is frustrating and can happen for many reasons. It could be an issue with the batteries themselves or a problem with the charging system.
Corroded Battery Connections Electrolytes from the battery top can cause corrosion of the connections to the battery cables and prevent them from reaching a full charge, so the battery won`t hold a charge for long while driving along.

ANSWER : Check that the pulley isn’t seizing up and causing the belt to snap, also be sure you loosen up the self propelled mechanismn by spraying down with WD 40, too much belt tension can cause this, but it rather seems like the belt pulley seizes and the engines drive pulley keeps turning causing the belt to overheat and break or stretch and come flying off.

ANSWER : The motor may have overheated and burned open. Use a multimeter to check resistance across the battery contacts in the tool with the switch closed. If it reads open, the motor has failed.

ANSWER : Hi,
There is a switch under your seat that senses if there is someone in the seat…that switch is bad and so it thinks that you are not in the seat and shuts down the motor…
find the switch, which will be underneath the seat and replace it….
Do not bypass it as it is a safety feature…

My fuse keeps blowing on my neutral safty switch on my John Deere 10c backhoe. What would you recomend to fix it?

ANSWER : Check and make sure the wires are plugged into switch.If that don,t work it has a bad switch.
Battery will not charge red light steady and then blinks?
ANSWER : Sorry but you will need new batteries.
Riding lawnmower will not start with key. I tried a new key switch and a new solenoid. I checked all safety switches and they checked out OK. I don’t know if the wires for the solenoid are hooked up correctly, because I bought the mower used.
ANSWER : Depend on the make and model of the mower….the safety switches usually are the seat, pto, shift lever, brake and clutch. If any of these are bad…the switch won’t work. Can you cross the starter and have it start? With these safety switches….you can’t just disconnect them to bypass. Most require a loop and running a wire from one side of the switch to the other will usually help you find the one causing the issue.The solenoid comes in about 4 different models. Some ground to the frame and some don’t. Not all key switches are the same either…we stock over 25 different switches and I could show you 7 that look identical but are different.Personally I would start testing from the starter and work my way back…starter, solenoid, safety switches, starter switch. www.nnyparts.com
