g oil, I was tilting it to break very large drifts when I began to notice the motor oil all over the lower area of the blower.

I’ve tilted powerwashers in the past and have had this problem in the past and was told to simply not tilt it. Any advice?

Experienced gardeners share their insights in answering this question :
Hello bob….When you tilt it the oil travels into the air filter and makes it hard to start and rough running. It is best not to tilt it….and if you do then check the air filter as it will probably be full of oil and need to be changed. Joe

How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

If oil is leaking from the fill tube, simply pull the tube out. It may be held in by a bolt and just pressure-fitted in. Once out, remove the old O-Ring, clean both mounting surfaces, reinstall the new O-Ring, reinstall the tube, and refasten any bolts or nuts holding it in place.
What causes fuel to leak into my engine oil? The fuel shut-off valve isn`t closed properly. Fuel float in the carburetor being stuck in the open position due to gumming (caused by stale fuel) or debris.
One of the easiest ways to fix the leak yourself is to use a stop leak additive or high mileage oil blend. Such products can soften and condition your car`s rubber seals to stop and prevent further automotive leaks. It may take up to a few hundred miles of driving before the leak is completely sealed.
If an oil cooler leaks, the loss of oil can cause significant damage to the pumps, compressors and motors. High oil & grease water discharge test results can be caused by oil contamination. In some cases, air quality issues can also occur.
Yes. Snow blowers, like cars, are 4-cycle engines, so they use the same type of motor oil. Make sure to use a motor oil weight with a low-temperature viscosity rating, such as 5W-30.
The Best Oil for Snowblower Engines—Summary

Our pick of the best oil for a snowblower is Mobil 1`s high mileage 5W-30 (US$27.47, Amazon) 4-cycle weight version which offers more than just regular car oil and works well on small engines.

How long can gas be stored before it goes bad? Whether in a gas can or in your snow blower, gas can go stale and lose its volatility in as little as 30 days. Using Sta-Bil Storage Fuel Stabilizer can increase storage time up to 24 months.
Although the engine stalls, some fuel lingers then evaporates leaving bad stuff behind — especially if the gasoline contains ethanol. The only thing worse is leaving old gasoline in the machine. It will create gum and varnish. The carburetor will most likely have to be disassembled, cleaned and rebuilt.
Change The Oil

Check your manual for the details but it is generally recommended about once a year.

If you`re looking for universal protection, then Lucas Oil 10278 Engine Oil Stop Leak is the best engine oil stop leak product on the market. Customers who want to stop leaks and save money should use ATP AT-205 Re-Seal Stops Leaks.
Here are some of the things that you may notice when your oil cooler is in need of being replaced: The engine is losing power. The engine is misfiring due to oil getting in the cylinders. There is a rise in the engine temperature.
An oil cooler is a type of radiator that uses oil as a coolant. As the oil cools the object in question, it absorbs the heat. It then gets passed through a cooler, and back to the hot object.
Gas leaks happen when a gas line or a gas-burning appliance springs a leak. Natural gas flowing seeps out of the leak into open areas. Gas leaks are dangerous because natural gas is composed primarily of methane. Methane is an asphyxiant that pushes oxygen out of enclosed spaces as it rushes to fill those spaces.
Have you noticed a hissing noise around your cylinder storage area or piping equipment? This sound is indicative of large amounts of gas seeping through very tiny openings (micro leaks). It may also be indicative of LPG boiling at low pressures and emitting the gas.
As we all know, LPG is very dangerous, because if it leaks, it can cause terrible fires and devastating explosions. To avoid this, Ethyl Mercaptan is added to the gas, which possesses that strong odor of rotten cabbages.
Ventilation. Make sure to keep all areas around appliances and equipment clean and unblocked, to allow the proper air flow. Protect your family from gas leaks, because this is a preventable situation.
Gas leaks are subtle in smell but very obvious in bills. They can even go on for months undetected. But if there`s a significant amount of gas escaping from your system, it can cause a spike in your gas bill. Pay attention to any sudden changes in your monthly invoice.
There are three main causes of residential gas leaks: poor or degraded fittings/connections between the gas line and a specific appliance, lack of proper appliance maintenance and appliance malfunctions.
You can use 10w30 instead of 5w30 oil since both meet the SAE standard for viscosity at operating temperatures. Generally, the viscosity difference between the two is neglectable. However, it`s important to note that a 10w30 oil will move slower than a 5w30 oil in cold environments.
Here`s the rundown for our purposes here: In a pinch, while it`s generally OK to use an oil that`s one viscosity rating higher or lower than what the manufacturer recommends, it`s best to use the viscosity given in the owner`s manual. When considering 5W-20 vs 5W-30, they are the same viscosity when the engine is cold.
This Old House recommends spraying the exit chute with a silicone (like WD-40® Specialist® Water Resistant Silicone Lubricant) to keep snow from sticking. When you are finished clearing snow, let the snowblower run for a few minutes to dry out to prevent parts from being damaged by freezing.
SAE 30 – Warmer temperatures, most common oil for small engines. SAE 10W-30 – Varying temperature range, this grade of oil improves cold-weather starting, but may increase oil consumption. Synthetic SAE 5W-30 – Best protection at all temperatures as well as improved starting with less oil consumption.
Gasoline can last between three months and three years depending on the type of gas and if it is properly stored. It`s important to note while all gas will naturally begin to degrade over time thanks to exposure to oxygen (also known as oxidation), all gas is not created equal.
Gas that is older than a year can cause issues, like engine knocking, sputtering and clogged injectors. Bad gas can be drained from the tank to prevent damage to the engine.
