Classic case of a clogged main jet. Drain the fuel. Remove the brass bolt and felt washer that hold the bowl on the carburetor. Clean the bowl. Clean all 3 holes in the brass bolt (main jet) until it is nice and shiny (carb/choke cleaner aerosol works well). Use NO metal objects in any of the holes of the bolt. Install and if float needle in carb is not sticking, fuel flow will be restored.
TIP: Add an ounce or two of Chem Tool Berryman B-12 Fuel System Treatment to your 4-stroke engine fuel container. Available at Auto Parts Stores everywhere. The active ingredient is Toulene and it WILL clean the carb and intake valve on the engines.

How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

If the motor starts initially but then won`t stay running, that means it`s getting a good initial injection of gas from the primer bulb, but then the carburetor starves off the oxygen it needs to keep combusting. When your carburetor is clogged, the cause is likely to be evaporated gas that has gummed up the pores.
A faulty or dirty spark plug could be the reason your lawn mower won`t stay running. It might produce the initial spark, but the spark won`t be enough to keep the engine running if the plug is clogged with dirt and oil. Spark plugs are usually located on the front of a push lawn mower and connected to a black cable.
Loose, Dirty or Disconnected Spark Plug in Your Lawn Mower: Check it out, clean off debris, re-connect and tighten. Dirty Air Filter: Clean or replace. Fuel Not Reaching the Engine: Tap the side of the carburetor to help the flow of gas. If this doesn`t work, you might need a new fuel filter.
When the primer bulb isn`t working, it may be a problem with the bulb itself, with the fuel lines that feed fuel to the bulb or both. Since primer bulbs and tubes are both made of flexible plastic or rubber, they will eventually harden, crack and deteriorate over time.
A dirty carburetor is the most common cause of a lawn mower that starts and then dies. Other possible causes include: Stale/Dirty Gas. Faulty Choke.
Why Does Your Lawn Mower Starts With Starter Fluid Then Dies? Your lawn mower starts with starter fluid then dies because of a clogged or dirty air filter, a carburetor issue, old gas, a defective or dirty spark plug, oil level issues, or a blocked fuel cap.
Operate the mower engine in the fast position. Engines with primer: For most temperature conditions, firmly push the primer bulb three times. In cooler weather, additional priming may be needed. A warm engine will usually not require priming.
These include a bad fuel pump relay or control module, a blown fuse, a wiring fault, loose or corroded wiring connector at the pump, or even an issue with the anti-theft system. Until these other possibilities have been checked out and eliminated, the fuel pump should be the last thing that`s replaced.
Weak or Corroded Fuel Pump.

If the fuel pump in your car goes bad, gas won`t be able to flow from the tank to the engine, and it simply won`t be able to run on its own. So we`ll simply recommend that you have the pump replaced.

Operate the mower engine in the fast position. Engines with primer: For most temperature conditions, firmly push the primer bulb three times. In cooler weather, additional priming may be needed. A warm engine will usually not require priming.
Over-priming can happen when the primer bulb is pushed too many times. This can result in the engines of your lawnmower becoming flooded by fuel. The fuel can spread into the combustion chamber, where it can gather and pool. Under this condition, the spark plug can get too wet and will not ignite.

Briggs and stratton 6.5 intek runs only if i keep priming carb
ANSWER : Drain the gas. Remove the aluminum float bowl on the carburetor. Dont lose the exterior washer. Clean the brass bolt very well that hold the bowl on…paying very close attention to the small holes near the top of the bolt. Use no metal objects to clean this brass bolt as it also functions as the main jet to the carburetor. If you clean it till it is nice and shiny and reinstall it (not TOO tight) then your fuel flow problem may be resolved. Hint: Install an inline fuel filter.

Hi there, quick question, there is a black and grey wire on the 13.5hp briggs and stratton, i am unsure which is the earth and which is the power?
