Champion RJ19LM Spark Plug, 0.029 to 0.033 in Fill Gap, 0.551 in Thread, 0.813 in Hex, Copper.
A: This spark plug should have a gap set to 0.02 inches.
Champion RC12YC Spark Plug, 0.032 to 0.038 in Fill Gap, 0.551 in Thread, 5/8 in Hex, Copper, For: 4-Cycle Engines.
About the Champion J19LM

Its shell is plated with corrosion-resistant zinc. The J-Gap spark plug is an M4 thread terminal type. It has a 14 mm diameter thread and a 3/8 inch gap.

The gap setting is different for each vehicle but most are somewhere between 0.028″ and . 060″. Consult the owner`s manual or Champion ® catalog to find the recommended setting for the vehicle you`re working on.
Spark plug gaps for car engines are typically 0.6 to 1.8 mm (0.024 to 0.071 in).
Common armature gap ranges are . 006 – . 010″ and . 010 – .
The incorrect plug gap for your engine can contribute to a high rate of misfires, loss of power, plug fouling, poor fuel economy and accelerated plug wear. It is always best to check the gap against the manufacturer`s specifications.
What are the conventional spark plug gap settings? The conventional gap settings are as follows: Racing Plugs 0.016″ 0.4mm. Coil (Standard) 0.025″ 0.6mm.
However, if the spark plug gap is too large, the spark is unlikely to consistently “jump” across the long distance between electrodes, thus leading to a rough-running engine or one that doesn`t run at all.
In the past, it was necessary to use a gapping tool to make sure the gap in the spark plugs was the correct size. Today, Champion spark plugs come pre gapped, eliminating the need for this step most times.
A wider spark plug gap does a better job of igniting the combustion, but it requires higher voltage to fire. This puts a greater strain on all the high voltage parts, coil, wires, distributor, etc. Too wide a gap causes the ignition parts to fail. An engine runs best with the widest gap the ignition can reliably fire.
The maximum clearance between piston and cylinder is stated in the factory data. Therefore, always read the values specified by the manufacturer. In general,: 0,01 mm per cm of piston diameter is used for the average piston clearance. With turbo engines, this is slightly wider, namely 0,015 mm per cm of diameter.
The generally accepted piston-to-head clearance for steel connecting rod engines is 0.040-inch although there are many instances where builders have tightened this clearance to as little as 0.036-inch.
As long as it is not less than 0.30mm, it will be OK. If the gap is too great, the engine may not start as easily. If the gap is too small (< 0.30mm), there is the risk that the coil and flywheel might touch as the flywheel heats up and expands when the engine is run.
The larger the gap, the more voltage is needed to jump the gap. Most experienced tuners know that increasing the gap size increases the spark area exposed to the air-fuel mixture, which maximizes burn efficiency. For this reason, most racers add high-energy ignition systems.
All Champion plugs are compatible with a range of natural and hydrocarbon-based artificial gases. This makes them ideal for use in petrol, anaerobic, aerobic, and ground-source gas engines alike. One special advantage of using Champion spark plugs is their high-temperature resistance and operational rating.
The spark gap width (i.e. the spark length) is measured as just under 5mm. If we apply the formula for a 5mm spark gap, we get 3 x 5mm = 15kV. The larger the spheres, the closer the measurement should match the formula, for a certain voltage range, but more on that below.
A spark will spontaneously jump across a gap of 1 cm if there is a potential difference, of about 10,000 V across it.
The optimum gap between 0.7 to 0.9 mm. At 0.4, 0.5, 0.6, and 1mm made more fuel consumption. Using platinum spark plug and RON 90 fuel can reduce fuel consumption to 5% on average.
Engine Hesitation

An engine that hesitates, or stumbles, upon acceleration is often the result of incorrectly gapped spark plugs. If spark plugs are gapped too wide, the ignition spark loses some of its strength as it crosses the spark plug gaps. This can result in engine hesitation.

Changing the spark plug gap won`t affect the ignition timing, but it will have some affects on the ability of the spark plug to ignite the fuel.
Champion D16/516 Spark Plug, 0.022 to 0.028 in Fill Gap, 0.709 in Thread, 7/8 in Hex, For: Small Engines. Constructed with a corrosion-resistant zinc-plated shell.
