How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

If the gas cap isn`t closing properly, check the gasket to be sure it`s not brittle or missing. If you have an old car or truck, be sure the metal gas cap isn`t damaged or bent. Both a bad seal or bent gas cap can lead to the gas cap issues and might even require a replacement from the original manufacturer.
If your generator cranks but won`t start, this suggests a fuel supply problem. Start with the primary fuel filter and make sure it is clean. Next, check for air in the fuel supply. You can do this by opening the bleed fitting on top of the secondary fuel filter or on top of the injection pump.
Check to ensure that the fuel and vacuum relief valves above the generator`s gas tank are open. If your generator still won`t start, unplug the fuel hose and check if gasoline can flow through the fuel line. Have a bucket handy to catch the fuel when you try this.
The gas cap is part of the engine emissions control system. Clicking makes sure the vapor seal is closed. If a seal is not detected by the computer it will flag with a check engine light warning that signifies your evaporative control system is NOT working.
If the hinge becomes bent or damaged, or the hinge pin and bushings become too loose or too stiff, the hinge won`t be able to open and close, and your fuel door will be stuck.
It requires a good deal of energy to crank the car`s motor, and if a battery is not replenishing its power properly due to a faulty alternator, it will become drained and ineffective. You will hear a clicking noise while attempting to start the car, and the engine will have difficulty turning over.
Reset breakers are located on the control box of your generator along with the main on/off switch and main breakers. Reset breakers protect the circuit from surges. When your generator experiences a surge, these breakers need to be pushed in to be reset. Overtime, reset breakers need be replaced if they become weak.
Correct the load by unplugging all appliances from the receptacles and press the circuit protector button to reset, followed by the Overload Reset button. AC power will be restored immediately. The overload reset button is available for a maximum of five times for each full start of the generator.
As soon as a circuit is completed with the load, electrical current begins to flow. When electrical current flows through anything, it produces an electromagnetic field. The field newly produced by the generator windings opposes the already existent excitation field, making the armature difficult to turn.
Bad Gas, What are the Symptoms? If you`ve inspected the gas cap, the problems you are having may be due to contaminated fuel. If a car, truck, or SUV has trouble starting, will not accelerate, or just is not running smoothly, then it`s possible you just have a contaminated tank of gas.

I have a hard time getting the gas cap to go back on once I have filled the tank. I have tried lining up the notches before turning, I have tried to push it into place before turning the cap. It doesn’t go on straight and is hard to take back off. It only turns so far once I do get it on straight.
ANSWER : Sounds to me like either the cap or the neck it screws onto is warped or malformed. You can try another cap.If I was you I would take it back to the store because that is not normal. My Poulan has a cap that is nice and loose and goes on with ease. It should not be hard to put the gas cap on.

Won’t turn over when I try to start
ANSWER : Really clean your battery connectors, Make sure jumper cables are beefy or
they will not allow enough power. If your starter clicks, it is either
stuck engine, weak battery, dead solenoid connectors or dead armature inside the
starter. In rare cases cable connections can come loose at the solenoid (A mechanic knows to take some solenoids
apart and turn the connectors upside down to the uncorroded side.) Make sure your blade is not stuck, make sure your brake is in the correct position, make sure your engage levers and shift linkage are in the neutral start positions.

My Z5426 won’t start. When I pull out the choke and turn the key, gas starts leaking out of the exhaust system just before it gets to the muffler. Last time it did start, it ran really rough. So, I turn off the engine and then tried to restart and that’s when I noticed the fuel leak.
ANSWER : Maybe bad fuel, fuel line leaking, flooding of the carburetor, since it did start and ran rough I am assuming that the gas was left set and more then likely this gummed up the carburetor, you will have to clean/rebuild it. If you have a can of carburetor clean you may be able to spray that into there and clean it up, I would not choke it to start it as it sounds like it got/is flooded/ing. Good Luck Tim

On my cu cadet zero turn only the left side turns and the right side moans but wont move ever with the release lever to free wheel released
ANSWER : Check the hydraulic oil level for the hydrostat drives(if it has a reserve tank located under the seat. Some ZT’s don’t have the reserve tank. Don’t over fill that tank. 1/4 inch above the bottom is all it needs.)

Also, check the steering arm bolts. Very often they work themselves loose and the arm doesn’t pull the valve rod that controls the hydrostat unit.
