The yellow fuel line is 3/32-inch ID x 3/16-inch OD x one foot long and the blue fuel line is 1/16-inch ID x 1/8-inch OD x one foot long. The fuel line fits Blowers, Chainsaws, Trimmers and other gas-powered equipment that use this size fuel line.
Most chainsaws have two fuel lines – one that feeds fuel into the carburetor and a return tube that allows unused fuel to flow back into the chainsaw gas tank.
A typical fuel system
A single fuel pipe runs from the tank, under the floor of the car to a mechanical pump on the engine. The pump delivers fuel to the carburettor. Whenever you check fuel pipes, disconnect the battery to prevent stray sparks igniting petrol or petrol vapour.
The (clear) fuel intake line runs from the top of the carburetor (straight nipple) and goes to the short post on the back of the primer bulb. The return line (blue) comes from the long post on the back of the primer bulb and goes into the bottom of the fuel tank.
Most modern chainsaws, string trimmers, leaf blowers and other small-engine two-stroke equipment recommend a 50:1 oil mix ratio, but some recommend 40:1 and older two-stroke equipment might even call for 32:1.
Metal, Rubber, Braided, or PTFE
Fuel Lines can be made from many different materials. If you plan to race, be sure to check the rule book for your track or sanctioning body. Using the right material the first time will save you time, money, and headaches.
Use a 7/16 inch and 9/16 inch wrench to tighten the quick connect fuel adapter to the fuel line SAE swivel fitting between 1/4 – 1/3 turn past finger tight (Figure 3). Overtightening can damage the fitting.
Most vehicles have rubber fuel hoses connecting the fuel pipes on the chassis to the fuel pump or carburetor on the engine. Rubber hoses are flexible and can be cut to length as required, but they have a tendency to perish over time and can rub through if not properly secured.
Material: Metal fuel lines are made from materials such as steel or aluminum, while rubber fuel lines are made from rubber or other elastomeric materials. Braided fuel lines are typically made from a metal or synthetic fiber braid that is wrapped around a rubber or other elastomeric core.
Clothespins on the fuel line work because they are insulators. The fuel absorbs less heat as it flows through fuel lines located in a hot environment. When conditions are near a tipping point it doesn`t take much, and just a little might be just enough.
The supply hose is connected to the fuel filter. The return hose is connected to the top of the fuel tank. The vapor return hose is connected to the charcoal canister.
It`s hard to deny that rubber hose is still a popular choice for many homebuilt fuel systems. It is relatively inexpensive and very easy to install. Compared to other options such as rigid aluminum tubing, it has one major shortcoming: It has limited life and cannot be considered a permanent part of the airframe.
Engine misfires, hard starting, and stalling
A fuel leak due to a worn or damaged hose can cause the vehicle to experience issues such as misfires, hard starting, stalling, and can even prevent the vehicle from running at all.

All STIHL gasoline-powered equipment uses a 50:1 gas and oil mixture.
Your chainsaw will need an unleaded, mid-grade gasoline with an octane rating of at least 89. This is one of the few times you`ll want to spend the money for premium gas. Unlike other small engines, most chainsaws us a high-performance engine. If the octane rating is not at 89, you risk knocking your engine.
The Tapered Thread on the port end of the fitting must use sealing compound or Teflon tape to help avoid leakage.
We have been asked time and again what kind of flare to use for brake and fuel lines. In both cases you must have a double 45-degree flare, especially with brake lines, which are always double-flared to contain the extreme pressures that exist in a hydraulic braking system.
Your fuel line should be about the same. Too long and your engine may have trouble scavenging for fuel. This makes it difficult to tune the engine.
Required fuel pressure can vary depending on your vehicle`s engine and fuel system. Carbureted engines may require as little as 28 kPa (4 PSI), while modern multipoint fuel injected high-performance engines can require as much as 414 kPa (60 PSI).
Each time the car cranks and runs, the fuel hoses will have transport the fuel to the combustion chamber. These hoses can last anywhere from 10,000 to 50,000 miles depending on what they are made of.
