How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?
We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :
If your John Deere won`t crank and all you hear are clicking sounds when you turn the key, you likely have a bad battery or a bad connection somewhere between the battery and the starter. Double check that the alternator and battery connections are clean and tight.
According to Raby, the primary reason a diesel tractor turns over but won`t start is because air is present somewhere in the fuel system. Running a tractor till it`s low or out of fuel and a clogged fuel filter are two of the more common ways air gets into the system.
The most common cause for the engine not turning over is simply the battery. Either the battery itself is dead, the terminals are corroded so the current can`t travel through them, or the battery cables themselves are damaged. Inspect your battery terminals and cables, and test the battery.
Clogged Fuel Injectors If the car cranks when you turn the key, but the engine won`t start, it could be because fuel isn`t getting to the engine. One potential reason for this could be dirty fuel injectors. Over time, the fuel injector nozzles can become clogged with rust, corrosion or debris.
Your fuel lift pump will be mounted on the engine and connected to the primary fuel filter. Begin pumping the lever or plunger while keeping an eye on the bleed screw. You will see bubbles form as air leaves the system. Use your rags or other absorbent material to sop up the fuel as it bleeds out.
The most common cause for slow or hard cranking is a poor ground circuit or bad electrical connection. With your John Deere, I would tend to think that it is weak ground either at the cable or where tractor ground/starter mounts. A tractor, in the same manner as a car, uses a DC electrical system.
Why does the tractor make a clicking sound and not start? If the riding mower makes a heavy clicking or a rapid clattering sound when the key is turned to the start position, there is a problem with the battery or a part of the starting circuit. The clicking noise comes from a part called the starter solenoid.
It might be a battery or alternator problem.
A rapid clicking noise when trying to start your car could mean there`s something wrong within the electrical system. Perhaps your battery`s dead, or your alternator, which charges the battery, isn`t working correctly.

Its black and about 2 inches by 1 inch with yellow, red, orange and black wires going to it. Replacement is round shaped with same amount of wires. If no fuel to carb check for flow at filter, if theres flow but no pressure look for a split fuel line in tank between pump and sender.

Spake plug is not spakeing – John Deere Original 130 160 165 175 180 185 Operators
ANSWER : Hi Lloyd
Make sure you are getting spark at the spark plug, to do this:Remove your spark plug and check to be sure you are getting a bright blue spark at the spark plug. You do this by grounding the plug on the head of the engine and cranking the engine or by pulling the crank rope…watching the plug for spark. If you are getting a nice blue spark then skip A below and go to B.
A…If you do not get a nice blue spark then you may need to replace the electronic module.Note: If you have to replace the module be sure to measure the position it is in, it is critical to starting. The clearance can be measured with a “business card”…use the card for the right clearance between the coil and the flywheel.Take a picture for later reassembly.
B…Also take some fine grit sandpaper (not emery) and lightly sand the flywheel where the magnet is located to clean any rust or corrosion from the magnet area. Please rate meBud

I have John Deere GX345. It does not start consistently. When it doesn’t start the plugs have no spark. The problem is intermittent. All electrical connections look clean and no corrosion. Re- seated all connections. Fuel flow is good because I can smell raw fuel while cranking the motor. I replaced the fuel lines last year. Thank you for your help. Daryl Witowski

Z425 zero turn turns over but won t crank – John Deere 48" 65Bushel Zero Turn Tractor Bagger
ANSWER : I would recommend that you check your fuel filter to see if it is dirty/clogged, check you spark plug to see if it is getting fire. Replace either if needed. If you are not getting spark there are only a few things that it could be, either a coil, pick up coil, or magneto.
