25cc Gas Line Trimmer
When I hand prime the carb. it starts and then stops. When I prime with the prime bulb it won’t start at all.The prime bulb is pushing air,but no gas? I cleaned the carb.but it still won’t start.
Experienced gardeners share their insights in answering this question :
There are two screws on the carb. 1 is Lo rpm air/fuel ratio and the other is hi rpm. Try adjusting the lo rpm screw counter-clockwize a 1/2 turn at first, more if needed. After each adjustment try to start. The other thing you could check is if the float is sticking in the bottom of the carb. which shuts off gas flow if full. There is a screw on the bottom of the carb to drain that float. You can try that also! Good luck man!

The (clear) fuel intake line runs from the top of the carburetor (straight nipple) and goes to the short post on the back of the primer bulb. The return line (blue) comes from the long post on the back of the primer bulb and goes into the bottom of the fuel tank.
If the annealing time is too short, primers do not have enough time to bind to the template. Use an annealing time of at least 30 sec. If the annealing temperature is too high, primers are unable to bind to the template. The rule of thumb is to use an annealing temperature that is 5°C lower than the Tm of the primer.
Primer bulbs do not work well if there is lots of air and no fuel. I spent over one hour getting my new boat primed. You might try running the hose and bulb to a can of gas (lots of things can go bad with can of gas, be careful) and see if the motor will fill and firm up the bulb.
ANSWER: The primer bulb, which is located in the fuel line between the gas tank and the engine, is used to fill the carburetor with fuel when the engine is started cold.
The operation of the primer bulb is quite simple. When the filled bulb is squeezed, the pressure closes the inlet valve and opens the outlet valve which then sends the fuel supply to the engine.
If you`re unsure about how many coats of primer you need for the surface you`re painting, a paint store can advise you. Otherwise, start with one coat and check the surface after it dries. If it still looks rough, porous or heavily colored, apply another coat.

The primer coat doesn`t have to be perfect, but it should cover the surface (no bare spots) and it shouldn`t be so blotchy that you get drips or visible unevenness.

Mower won’t start. Toro mower..engine won’t turn over. Cleaned sparkplug…checked air filter..weather cool. Followed instructions for cold engine…prime witrh three pushes of the bulb..wnon’t even hint at a start..
ANSWER : Something everyone over looks is oil. Did you check the oil? You seemed to mention everything else but. If you have a low oil switch with low oil it will not start
Chainsaw stalls Chainsaw is 4 years old and has a history of moderate use. After I ran the saw about 1 minute on plain gas (grabbed the wrong gas can – ouch) the chainsaw sputtered and stopped.
It didn't seize, and the pull starter never became more or less difficult than normal. The engine would continue to start if I pressed the prime bulb and engaging the choke, but stall again after 10-20 seconds. The temperature that day was about 50 degrees F and I was running the saw with the “cold plug” installed (per warm weather running).
When it refused to keep running I did the following:
Flushed the fuel tank (that's when I saw the gas had no oil in it).
Ran hardware wire through all of the fuel lines.
Replaced the fuel filter and spark plug.
Cleaned the air filter with a nylon brush and compressed air.
Same behavior (start then stall in less than 20 seconds). I made at least 20+ attempts to start it.
I removed the carburetor and, though it looked perfectly clean, I took off the top and bottom covers then sprayed everything with automotive carb cleaner and blew out the passages with compressed air. The gasket and diaphragm looked new. No pinholes in the diaphragm when held against a bright light. I reinstalled the carb but got the same behavior (start then stall in less than 20 seconds). I again made at least 20+ attempts to start it.
I disassembled the short block and saw that the piston has some slight scoring on it. The ring is clean and I verified that the piston ring has .001 clearance between it and the piston ring groove all the way around with the ring held tightly in place (I was thinking that the piston might have become deformed if it did indeed get too hot when run without any oil premix).
The cylinder wall has no scoring and there isn't any signs of melted aluminum anywhere. The crank is clean as was the inside of the crank cover.
I reinstalled the crank cover using permatex non-hardening gasket goop and torqued the cover bolts to 10 inch pounds. I reassembled everything else per the exploded diagrams in Echo's “parts manual” for the CS400.
During assembly I took note that both the carb gasket and intake boot look like new.
Still the same result: press prime bulb once, engage choke, pull a few times and it starts but stalls after 10-20 seconds.
I'm stumped.
ANSWER : Not sure what to say other than its fuel starvation, if not already done replace the fuel filter in the tank, if no better i would suspect a massive air leak, so replace the crank seals, if there is no primary compression in the crankcsae fuel will not pull through the engine, good luck.
I prime my tecumseh engine three times as stated. The lawn mower still will not start. How do I investigate to figure out what is wrong? I have taken it to a repair man twice. After I get it back it will start the first couple of times that I try it. Then it goes back to its history of not starting when I prime it 3 times. Sometimes I can prime it 7-9 times and it might start. Sometimes if I prime it 30-40 times it might start the next day.
ANSWER : This sounds like a fuel delivery problem. Maybe remove the carb and tear it down and then soak it overnight in a cleaner after removing all the moving parts…not real hard normally…then let dry and reassemble…If this doesn’t improve the fuel delivery problem, maybe get another carb for it….Make sure the air filter is not plugged up, blocking air flow to the carb itself..just something to make sure of at first.
My mantis tiller with a honda gx22 engine starts then shuts off after approx. 30 sec.
ANSWER : If your unit has a primer bulb, start your engine . When it starts to die push your primer, if the engine comes back to life you have a carb issue.
I have a Craftsman Gold 6.0 mulching mower with a B&S engine on it that has been idle for about 10 years. It was only lightly used before that and I ran the gas tank dry before putting it away. Today I put gas in the tank pressed the primer bulb 3X and pulled the cord a few times without it starting. I noticed gas dribbling out of the little hole in the center of the primer bulb. It continuously drips and the gas is puddling on the top deck of the mower. Is this likely a problem with the primer bulb or something else? Thanks.
ANSWER : Sounds like the primer bulb dry rotted from sitting &/or the float is stuck in carb. If gas is indeed leaking from bulb. It will need to be replaced. While it is apart, clean carb inside & out with spray carb cleaner.
My 625 self propelled will start as long as i am using the prime button, when i stop priming the carb. it will stop
ANSWER : I suspect your primer bulb has a pin hole in it and is sucking air thus limiting the fuel to the carb.
Primer bulb doesnt fill back up after engine gets hot and is shut off to refill then fails to start because of this condition
ANSWER : You might have too prime it 10-15 times when this happens
