My Toro riding mower wont start it just clicks when I try starting, was told to check ground
Experienced gardeners share their insights in answering this question :
A click is a good sign
I’d touch a car jump lead direct from battery +ve to main terminal on starter motor. Just flash on for 2 seconds – It will spark a bit but it should turn the starter motor – regardless of key / solenoid circuitry.
If YES then trace the heavy wiring from batterry to starter via the solenoid and check for tight / non-corroded conections.
If NO then you have a either a faulty/flat battery or a starter motor problem (likely worn brushes – which are cheap to replace)
I doubt you have a ground lead off – because it wouldn’t click if that was off!

How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?
We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :
The ground is what connects the negative terminal of the battery to the chassis of the vehicle. It establishes a link between the vehicle`s electrical system and the source of electricity, completing the circuit to ensure a seamless relay of current.
Ground wires are placed under the front hood of your car. One patch can be seen in between the negative terminal of the battery and the car body. You can find another ground wire between the body and the engine.
The ground wire is not strictly necessary for the operation of a device, but it is still an important feature. This wire is designed to provide a path for electrical current to travel if the normal paths aren`t available. This could be because the other paths are damaged, or there is too much electricity for them.
If your house has metal electrical boxes, you must connect the fixture ground wire to the green ground screw on the crossbar. If your house is newer or has been recently rewired and has plastic electrical boxes, connect the fixture ground wire to the house ground wire (the bare copper wire without any insulation).
An electrical problem can often be traced to a single source: a bad ground connection. A bad ground can cause noise in an audio system, make electric fuel pumps run hot or produce low pressure, and make electronic engine controls do weird things.
Why do we need to ground motors? Well for one, grounding is required for pretty much all electric motors. The National Electrical Code (NEC), section 430-L, defines the motor grounding conditions. Electricity flow through the motor`s windings, which are typically insulated from other parts of the motor.
The ground wire offers an additional path for the electrical circuit to flow into the earth so as to not endanger anyone working with the electricity nearby in the event of a short circuit. Without ground wire, your body could instead complete the ground path and may cause shock or electrocution.
The green wire (or it can sometimes be uncolored) wire is the “ground” wire, it will take electricity back to the breaker panel, then outside to a rod that`s buried in the ground. This is to prevent the electricity from running through you!
Without the ground present, problems with your outlet may cause arcing, sparks, and an electrical charge that can spawn fire along walls or on nearby furniture and fixtures. Health hazard. Ungrounded outlets pose the risk of shock to people operating the electronics and appliances plugged into the outlet.
However, a properly grounded electrical system is vital to the performance of your vehicle. Without a good ground, your ignition system will underperform, you`ll experience random issues with charging, and you can easily end up stranded.
BMW uses braided-style ground straps over solid ground straps to allow movement between the engine and chassis and to eliminate the transfer of engine noise to the cabin of the vehicle. Think about it, the only way an engine sitting on rubber mounts can be earthed (grounded) is through ground straps or cables.
