If it’s been tipped over, it could have gotten oil into the cylinder.

Remove the spark plug, drape some paper towels over the plug hole, and pull the starter rope… if it rolls over and oil squirts out the plug hole, it was oil-locked… keep at it until no more oil comes out, then thread some twisted paper towel into the plug hole and try to soak up as much oil as possible.

Clean the old or procure a new spark plug, check/adjust the gap either way, insert finger tight, then torque to 20 lbs-ft.

How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

If your snowblower won`t turn on or start, you can insert the key in the starter switch. There could be a problem with your starter switch or motor. To test the starter switch, you can use a multimeter. If the starter switch is not working properly, replace it.
Why is the starter pull cord on my snow thrower difficult to pull? The recoil starter has frozen and will not turn the engine. Try moving the snow thrower to a place that is warmer than 38 degrees F and let the recoil starter thaw out.
First step, check the fuel tank to make sure there is enough fuel to operate your snow blower. You should see fuel slosh around. Second step, check the spark plug. A wet plug means there`s fuel going through the fuel system and there may be an issue with the ignition.
If the V-belt is worn out, misadjusted, or broken, the snowblower wheels won`t turn. Inspect the belt to determine if it is broken or worn out, and make sure that the belt is properly adjusted. If the V-belt is broken or worn out, replace it.
You can pull the starter or safety key out if you need to shut off your engine quickly. Once you start your engine, let it run for a few minutes to warm up.
The problem may be in the recoil starter itself. A tangled coil of rope or a broken spring may be the problem. In many cases the recoil starter is easily replaced as a single assembly. DO NOT attempt do take the starter apart.
A clogged carburetor is most commonly caused by leaving fuel in the snowblower for a long period of time. Over time, some of the ingredients in the fuel may evaporate, leaving behind a thicker, stickier substance. This sticky fuel can clog up the carburetor and cause the engine to stall.
If your blower is having a difficult time starting, then you may be dealing with a carburetor issue. The carburetor`s job is to ensure the proper mix of fuel and air is directed to the blower`s engine. As mentioned, the carburetor can become clogged, making it difficult for fuel and air to enter the engine.
A misadjusted or broken control cable will prevent the wheels from turning. Replace the traction control cable if necessary but be sure to properly adjust the cable`s tension so the drive disk properly engages with the friction wheel when the handle lever is depressed.
Press the start button, if your model has an electric start.

Push the button in short cycles of only five seconds until the engine fires and stays running. Overtaxing the starter can damage it.

Two-stage snow throwers have serrated steel augers that break up snow and ice and feed the snow into a high speed impeller (stage-one). The impeller then throws the snow up and out of the discharge chute (stage-two). If you`ll be tackling heavier wet snow, then a two-stage thrower is a safe bet.

Key start turns and makes a whining “I sort of want to start” noise but does not engage the engine. Previously the key start was sort of touchy and the key had to in just the right position to engage the starter. Could this be a starter motor problem? If so what is the part/fix?
ANSWER : If it is whining, the starter motor is turning. You possibly may have a broken starter drive. This is the little gear on the starter shaft. It’s not too expensive and relatively easy to replace.

My Z5426 won’t start. When I pull out the choke and turn the key, gas starts leaking out of the exhaust system just before it gets to the muffler. Last time it did start, it ran really rough. So, I turn off the engine and then tried to restart and that’s when I noticed the fuel leak.
ANSWER : Maybe bad fuel, fuel line leaking, flooding of the carburetor, since it did start and ran rough I am assuming that the gas was left set and more then likely this gummed up the carburetor, you will have to clean/rebuild it. If you have a can of carburetor clean you may be able to spray that into there and clean it up, I would not choke it to start it as it sounds like it got/is flooded/ing. Good Luck Tim

How do i trouble shoot the electric starter system,it does not work
ANSWER : Mine the electric cord had pulled out of the receptacle.on the blower so it was not working. I pulled it right out and reinstalled it It’s ok now.
Do you have power coming to the blower or have you blown a GFI and it needs to be reset. Does the starter click or try to work? These are things that I have to know before we tear things apart.
If it buzzes it could need a gear replacement. on the starter itself.

My edger tipped over briefly, now the starter cord is hard to pull and it won’t start.
ANSWER : Try removing the spark
plug and squirting some carb cleaner or starting fluid in the
cylinder. Pull the starter cord several times for the piston to drive
out the oil. Clean the plug and replace it. Try to start as normal.
If you have starting fluid squirt a shot in the air cleaner to help
make it easier to start the first time.
