How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?
We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :
The John Deere L110 is a full-size riding lawn mower. These mowers were in production from 2002 to 2005. The L110 was designed to be more comfortable and durable than previous models.
The “Deck Belt” goes around the pulleys right above the blades on the deck and then to a double pulley. The “Drive Belt” on your mower goes from the transmission, around an Idler pulley then over to the double pulley I mentioned before. The Drive belt also plays a role in making the wheels turn.
The top belt is the power clutch belt, also known as the PTO (power takeoff) belt. This is the easier one to replace because it`s on top and has a spring-loaded hand lever to remove the belt from the lawn mower for deck removal. The lower belt on the deck is called the arbor belt.
There is no specific time length that mower belts need to be replaced.
The PTO (or power take-off) belt is part of a pulley system that operates the blades on your riding lawn mower. It runs off the electric clutch system in your engine.
The John Deere L110 was produced from 2003-2004 and came equipped with a Hydrostatic drive transmission, 42″ Mower Deck and 17.5hp Briggs Engine. Regular Maintenance should be performed on the L110 every 50 hours and should include Spark Plug, Air Filter, Oil Filter with 1.5qts oil and sharpen or replace mower blades.

Drive Belt, Serpentine Belt, and V-Belt are basically different names for the same thing. The Drive Belt / Serpentine Belt is a rubber belt mounted on the exterior of your car engine. The belt is driven by your engine and is used to power or drive the accessory devices that are needed to make your car functional.
Most cars today use a single belt, called a serpentine belt. Older cars often have two belts – a drive belt and an alternator belt. Your power steering belt is generally the serpentine or drive belt. Without this, the power steering pump doesn`t work and fluid cannot be sent through the lines to the steering rack.
There are two belts you need to be familiar with when talking about car maintenance — the serpentine belt and the timing belt. The serpentine belt winds through your engine and carries power to several key components, including the alternator, air conditioning, and power steering pump.
Secondary deck drive belts power the lawn mower blades. Used with primary deck drive belt (M95121) that pulls power from the engine. John Deere belts contain strong material to prevent stretching and roll over which provides smooth engagement and consistent power to the mower deck.
Drive belts on riding mowers take a lot of abuse by design. Most two-belt systems consist of upper and and lower belt systems; the upper belt system delivers power to the PTO (power takeoff assembly) and the lower belt assembly. The lower belt assembly delivers power to the rear axle.
A common cause of belt breakage is excessive grass clippings on the deck. Grass clippings can work their way under pulleys and deck covers, causing series problems. Make sure to clean off your deck after every mower use and follow manufacturer recommendations.
An over-tightened belt can burn out any bearing that the belt rotates on, including alternator, power steering pump, A/C compressor, idler pulleys, etc. An over-tightened timing belt can ruin any pulley bearing it is connected with.
Cars equipped with an automatic belt tensioner adjust themselves over time and do not require adjustment.
The automatic belt tensioner is a spring-loaded idler pulley that maintains constant tension on the drive belt at all engine speeds. The faster that the engine turns, the belt gets stretched more which actually makes the belt loose.
The belt has a glazed or burned sidewall.
Look at the belt edge that contacts the pulleys. If it appears shiny, glazed or burned, it will need to be replaced.
Kevlar V-belts are built to be stronger and last longer than standard belts. Whereas standard belts are typically made with polyester cords, Kevlar V-belts are made from Kevlar cords which can withstand more wear and tear.
Home and Garden Geek adds that you should be able to loop one or two fingers over the same belt when the tractor is off and the belt is “engaged” and pull it gently away from the pullies. This translates to one or two pounds of force. If you need more than two fingers, your deck belt may be too tight.
In 1963, John Deere first broke into the lawn tractor market by introducing the model 110.

The PowerShift transmission uses a countershaft design with 16 forward and 5 reverse speeds. The speeds are carefully spaced to utilize the engine power and torque allowing the operator to select the appropriate gear to obtain maximum fuel economy and productivity.
Continuously Variable Transmissions
Instead, they have forward and reverse pedals. CVT transmissions provide great value and the same top-end speed as a hydrostatic lawn mower transmission, but they can jerk a bit when you`re starting out or maneuvering at slow speeds.
