Me to … you want help but you don’t give any description of the mower! There must be a way to remove it … think about this … someone put it on! so it has to come off! You may have to disconnect part of the deck, I don’t know … You may have to cut the old one off and pry the new one on (on cheaper models) I don’t know, you will not tell me what we are working on. It SHOULD be reasonably easy – some company made them by mass production – they wouldn’t make it hard for them to assemble (unless it is a really cheap one).
I suggest you get on the ground and study the deck … look for levers or tension pulleys. Make sure the mower is OFF, OF COURSE. ALSO, disconnect the SPARK plug as turning the belt COULD START THE MOTOR!!!!!!! I don’t know what this machine is so I am stressing the safety aspect of what you are about to do!!!!!!!!!

The deck belt on your riding lawn mower connects the crank shaft to the lawn mower blades, causing them to turn. If you notice cracks forming in the rubber, consider changing your deck belt. To avoid interruption while mowing, change the deck belt before it breaks.
Removal of the deck would be extremely helpful when replacing any belt on the lawn mower. On some models you may not have to for the two lower belts, but it would still make the replacement procedure quicker and easier.
The “Deck Belt” goes around the pulleys right above the blades on the deck and then to a double pulley. The “Drive Belt” on your mower goes from the transmission, around an Idler pulley then over to the double pulley I mentioned before. The Drive belt also plays a role in making the wheels turn.
A common cause of belt breakage is excessive grass clippings on the deck. Grass clippings can work their way under pulleys and deck covers, causing series problems. Make sure to clean off your deck after every mower use and follow manufacturer recommendations.
A perfectly tight mower belt can rotate without slipping off but not cause the engine to over-exert and overheat. If the belt does not slip off while working and is not producing unfavorable sounds that indicate wearing off of the belt, then that is the perfect tightness for it.
In the lawnmower application, the drive belt transfers the radial torque of the engine shaft to the input shaft of the transmission, which then is powered to turn and perform the function of the lawnmower: propelling the mower forward and spinning the blade.
Serpentine belt replacement is easy because today`s automatic drive belt tensioners eliminate the need to loosen bolts or pry components into position for retensioning. Just rotate the tensioner, remove the old belt and install a new one.
You`ll lose power steering, the A/C will quit, your battery will eventually die, and the engine might overheat. Plus, it could also damage the engine accessories it controls. This is why it is so important to get your serpentine belt replaced on a regular schedule.

ANSWER : Are you refering to the spring attached to the end of the cable that runs up to the lever on the dash to engage the blades? All you needed to disconnect was that cable on top of the idler arm that’s held in place by a ‘hairpin’ and the left pulley cover to put the belt on.

Drive belt Have replace drive belt but mower still has no forward movement. Mower is only 2 years old but its already had to have another drive belt installed by the dealer last year. wanted to do it myself but when i install belt theres hardly any tension so mower doesnt move. Checked and rechecked the diagram and is installed correctly. Cant find a tensioner adjustment if it has one.
