File the teeth from the inside towards the outside. The easy way to remember the correct direction is that the tip of the file should always point away from the engine. On a husqavarna 362 xp special 71cc chainsaw very little oil is coming out to the chain i have removed the chain and bar and cleaned and still very little oil is making it to the chain what should i do ??
ANSWER : Check to see if there is an oil-volume adjustment screw located near the lower part of the chain where it goes into the cover, but mounted in the main case. It might be underneath the case in about the same location. Turn it CCW somewhat, if found, and check for oiling by holding the bar tip running at speed near some cardboard. If properly oiled, it will throw off a thin line of oil after several moments. If there is no adjustment, then you will have to investigate the oil pump, lines, and filter/valve in the oil tank. Make sure to clean the small oil passages in the drive end of the bar. Hope this helps!
I have a Poulan 295. I needed to replace the chain. It is a 20″ chain. There is bar oil in the resevoir. The chain will not stay on the bar (it seems loose even when fully tightened). I replaced the bar and the chain still kicks off when I am cutting wood.
ANSWER : I did the same thing to my poulan pro 295 and had to order a screw tightener since the original only had the bar tightened from the bar itself. The chain brake cover has provisions for a traditional screw tightener so it was an easy fix, you didn’t say if you had put a screw tightener on yours.
Chain saw chain is loose
ANSWER : Loosen the side cover nuts, then turn the adjuster CW to bring the chain up to the lower edge of the bar, then check to see if the chain will move fairly easily by hand. Tighten the clamp nuts and recheck tension. If chain seems to get loose quickly again, it may not be sharpened correctly causing heat to build in the chain. You should see no reflection of light from the cutting edges if filed correctly and the saw should require very little pressure for it to cut rapidly. Hope this helps!
My 18 Inch chain saw will not keep oiling the Chain, I had it worked on and He said it was plugged. How do you unplug it with out taking it all apart. Is there a spot to blow air through. the Preacher..
ANSWER : Remove the chain bar and look just below the bolts holding it in place. You’ll see a small hole where the chain bar oil pump pushes out oil. Make sure this hole is clear then run the saw without the bar on.
Be CAREFUL of fingers!
You should see oil coming out of that hole. If not, you may need more serious work done with the saw (chain bar pump replacement).
