If no spark appears, check for broken wires, shorts, grounds or a defective stop switch. Once you have confirmed that the stop switch is working, reconnect the spark plug lead.
If the ignition coil does not have spark, it`s time to check its wires. Use a test light to check the continuity on the signal wire and power wire on the ignition coil. If both wires are functional but the coil fails to produce spark, the ignition coil or the ignition control module is bad.
You should see a strong spark between the tester`s terminals when the engine is cranking. If there is no spark, this indicates that the spark plug is defective and should be replaced. Need help finding your model number? The carburetor might be clogged.
The starter will not have any impact on the engine`s ability to produce spark. There are a number of issues that may cause an ignition system to not produce spark. A bad crankshaft position (CKP) sensor (on engines that do not have a distributor), or broken, loose or corroded wires from the sensor to the PCM.
Worn and Dirty Plugs
A spark plug won`t fire properly if its electrodes have been worn thin, if they are covered with combustion deposits or if they`re wet. If the plug has seen many hours of service, the electrodes may just be worn out, and replacing the plug will restore normal engine operation.
If you do not see a spark, there is an ignition problem. Remove a plug wire and insert an old spark plug or a spark plug tester into the end of the wire (the plug boot). Place the spark plug on a metal surface on the engine, or ground the spark plug tester to the engine. Then crank the engine to check for a spark.
The low voltage primary circuit operates at battery voltage (12 to 14.5 volts) and is responsible for generating the signal to fire the spark plug at the exact right time and sending that signal to the ignition coil.
If there isn`t any spark visible when kicking the engine over, follow these steps: (1) Check the metal cap on top of the spark plug and make sure it is tight. Give it a gentle twist with a pair of pliers if it isn`t. (2) Make sure that the spark plug lead wire is solidly connected to the spark plug cap.
The most common reasons a Chevrolet Spark won`t start are a dead battery, an alternator problem, or failed starter.
Simply, the engine will not start if the spark plugs can`t produce enough spark to start the combustion process. Some of the other causes for difficulty starting include issues with the ignition system, a battery needs replacing, or worn-out spark plug wires.
The most common signs of bad spark plugs include start-up trouble, rough idling, sluggish acceleration, declining fuel economy, engine misfiring, and engine knocking.

2160 cub cadet that wont start.hot spark to the plugs
ANSWER : You’ve solved for some of the equation. Spark. Fuel. Air…..all in the proper sequence. Now, what condition are the plugs ? I’d change them out if they have any wetness to them. Check your fuses as well. Another thing is the ‘safety switches’ – located in seat, on parking brake, etc. One of these could have come undone or gone bad/loose wire. I’m thinking the latter….

I have a cub cadet 2165 I just put in a new battery and it is slow turning over any ideas?
ANSWER : If battery is good and everything is hooked up right. Most likely could be the pto clutch bearing. Not the bearing on the pulley but on the clutch inside. Had the same problem, took the spark plugs out got it free. Turned over easy with plugs out, Started right up after and then burned up my bearing. Don’t burn up bearing. If do field assy. For that is 200$ if you can get away with just that. Otherwise 350-400$ for full assy.
