How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

A dirty carburetor is the most common cause of a stalling snowblower engine when the auger is engaged. Cleaning the carburetor and fresh gas will fix the stalling.
If the auger doesn`t turn even though the main shaft is being powered and the shear bolts or pins are intact, then it`s likely the gears inside the gearbox have stripped and the gearbox assembly will need to be replaced.
If the V-belt is worn out, misadjusted, or broken, the auger won`t turn. Inspect the V-belt to determine if it is broken or worn out. If the belt is broken or worn out, replace it. If the belt is not broken or worn out, ensure that the belt is properly adjusted, and adjust the belt if necessary.
If the fuel cap vent is clogged, air won`t be able to enter the tank and a vacuum or “vapor lock” will occur. This stops the flow of fuel to the carburetor causing the engine to stall. To determine if the fuel cap vent is clogged, try slightly loosening the cap and then starting the engine.
A clogged carburetor is most commonly caused by leaving fuel in the snowblower for a long period of time. Over time, some of the ingredients in the fuel may evaporate, leaving behind a thicker, stickier substance. This sticky fuel can clog up the carburetor and cause the engine to stall.
If there`s a difference in track tension between the left and right snow blower tracks, your unit could pull to one side when driving.
Check and adjust the belts and replace any broken or worn belts when you see the snowblower auger not turning. Check the auger drive cable and adjust it if loose or replace the cable if it`s broken. Examine and replace the auger if it`s damaged and won`t spin. Replace the gear case if it won`t spin the auger.
If the Toro SnowMaster 824 QXE is not available or if you have a gravel driveway (or you clear a lot of lawn area), we recommend the Cub Cadet 2X 26 IntelliPower Snow Blower. This model is good for regular snowfalls of roughly 6 inches to 1 foot on a two-car driveway that`s up to about 80 feet long.
First, check the shear pins for damage. If the shear pins are broken or worn out, replace them. Next, check the auger blades. If the auger blades are bent or damaged, replace them.

These components should all be touching the ground at the same time. If either the auger or wheels are not touching the ground, this means that the shave plate is adjusted too low and needs to be raised.
If your auger keeps turning when the engine is idling, the carburetor may need to be adjusted. The clutch controls the movement of the auger by engaging them when the engine has reached a set speed.
