If the PTO clutch is not getting power, if the clutch solenoid is defective, or if the clutch is worn out, the lawn mower blades will not engage. The PTO clutch is not repairable—if the clutch is defective, you must replace it.
The PTO (or power take-off) belt is part of a pulley system that operates the blades on your riding lawn mower. It runs off the electric clutch system in your engine.
This operation is crucial to the overall functioning of riding mowers, and thus PTO clutch repair may need to be immediately performed on riding mower models that have a failed clutch. Fortunately, you can fix your clutch irrespective of your experience with PTO clutch installation.
Powershift PTO engagement problems could be from blocked hoses or fittings, bad connections or ground or the solenoid. Mechanical PTO engagement problems could originate from low air pressure, improper cable installation or back lash too tight.
To engage the blades, be sure that your throttle or choke is in the rabbit position. Then, push the PTO or blade engage lever forward into the on position.
Another riding lawn mower that has great features and durability is Cub Cadet. With proper care and maintenance, cutting machines from this brand can help mow your lawn for at least 500 to 1000 hours.
PTO speed is stated as a percentage of engine speed. An example being the required pump speed of 1000 RPM and having an engine operating speed of 1500 RPM. The percentage of PTO to engine speed would be calculated to approximately two-thirds, or approximately 67 percent (e.g. 1000/1500 = 66.67, or 67%).
PTO clutches generally overheat because of improper lubrication/greasing (both too much and too little can cause problems), excessive sideload, or a new installation. Operators are advised to reduce sideload and inspect grease levels first.
If a belt is not tensioned properly, it will ride too loose or too tight on the pulley. A belt that`s too loose on a pulley will cause slippage, which leads to heat build up from friction. This heat will damage your rubber belts and cause the belts to crack and break.
If the PTO clutch is not receiving power, the clutch solenoid is defective, or the clutch itself is worn out, the blades will not engage. Since a PTO clutch is not repairable, you will need to replace a broken or worn out clutch with a new one.

I have a cub cadet 2165 I just put in a new battery and it is slow turning over any ideas?
ANSWER : If battery is good and everything is hooked up right. Most likely could be the pto clutch bearing. Not the bearing on the pulley but on the clutch inside. Had the same problem, took the spark plugs out got it free. Turned over easy with plugs out, Started right up after and then burned up my bearing. Don’t burn up bearing. If do field assy. For that is 200$ if you can get away with just that. Otherwise 350-400$ for full assy.

Starter generator turns over slow with new full charged battery on a 124 cub cadet when trying to start. It is a new starter generator – suppose to have been tested. I have checked wiring – acts like it has a ground when you jump from auto. Battery goes dead within a hour or so.
ANSWER : With the battery going dead on its own like that, I think you have a short circuit somewhere that is causing this problem. This could be anywhere in your wiring system so check everything out. Hope this is helpful to you. Best regards and good luck.
