How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

One of the more serious noises is a rattling sound, as this can signify that you have loose parts that might come dislodged. The minute you hear rattling, it is imperative that you tighten the blade, flywheel, and other parts.
Check the Air Filter

Take a look at the air filter. If it`s dirty, the engine may be starved for air. Filters are either paper or foam. You can remove foam filters and clean them with soapy water, but you`ll have to replace a dirty paper filter.

Failure of any mechanical component, a broken hose, or clogged filter will cause tractor hydrostatic transmission problems. But the most common issue will be the oil itself. In the transmission section of your operator`s manual, you`ll find a section that covers oil viscosity.
Take a look at the blade under the mower deck. Sometimes the knocking sound you hear could be the result of a loose, bent or wobbling blade. If you`ve recently removed or replaced the blade and it suddenly started knocking, this is quite possibly the cause of your issue.
If the blades are engaged and you shift to reverse the mower is designed to either shut off the blades or the engine. Some units have ROS, this is an additional position on the key switch that can be activated if the operator feels the need to mow in reverse.
To set the mower in reverse mode, come to a complete stop and turn the blades off. Depress the brake pedal and move the shift lever into reverse position. Finally, turn the key to the reverse/caution mode. Push the PTO/blade lever to the on position to engage the blades.
Low Tire Pressure

If one or more tires have low pressure, it can make your car sound like a helicopter. This is because the tire cannot grip the road and makes a humming noise as it rotates. You`ll need to examine your tire pressure and inflate your tires to the proper level.

Worn bearings about to fail completely often make grinding noises, as well as unusual vibrations. The mandrels holding the mower deck`s cutting blades contain two bearings that need frequent lubrication to keep the bearings working properly. As bearings dry and overheat, seals fail and dirt enters the mechanism.
One of the disadvantages of hydrostatic drives is that the majority of the oil stays in the loop and doesn`t return to the reservoir for cooling. One way to return some of the oil back to the tank is by using a hot oil shuttle valve.
If you hear a rattling noise while driving, the first step is to not ignore it. The sounds and vibrations coming from your vehicle could be signs of a serious mechanical issue. Seek help from a professional who can find the source of the noise before any further damage is done.
: a rapid succession of sharp clattering sounds. : noise, racket.
A rattling is a quick, often unsteady, burst of sounds. The sound of a rattlesnake is a good example of a rattling.
Knocking occurs when fuel burns unevenly in your engine`s cylinders. When cylinders have the correct balance of air and fuel, fuel will burn in small, regulated pockets instead of all at once.
A back-up beeper, also known as back-up alarm or vehicle motion alarm, is a device intended to warn passers-by of a vehicle moving in reverse.
Many times, this will solve your problem: The sensor has been obstructed with dirt or snow and needs to be wiped clean. If the alert is still beeping, there may be an electric issue in the system. Take your car to a dealership that`s familiar with your car`s make and have them inspect it.
Can I mow in reverse with my new riding mower? Yes you can. Although mowing in reverse is not recommended, there may be certain situations where operators feel they need to mow in reverse.
The most common reason for a surging lawn mower engine is a blockage in the fuel supply, but there are other possibilities: Bad gas. Bad spark plug. Dirty/faulty carburetor.
Cub Cadet lawn tractors are very popular and consistently earn high ratings from owners. If you`re looking for the best lawn tractor among them, we recommend the XT1 Enduro FAB series.
Decreasing rotational speed, whether by design or operationally, is the main lever for reducing the noise level of a rotor.
Warped rotors can cause a squeaking noise when the brakes are applied. They can also make a scraping or grinding sound when they`re warped and worn down. The squealing noise, however, can also be made by brake pads that are worn out.
When your mower vibrates severely, start by checking whether the blade is damaged, imbalanced or loose. Tighten the blade bolt if it`s loose. Replace the blade if it`s damaged. A rough-running engine can also cause severe vibrations so tune up the mower to cure engine vibrations.
The clicking noise comes from a part called the starter solenoid. The solenoid connects the battery to the starter motor when the solenoid is energized. The key switch and the safety switches in the starter circuit combine to energize the solenoid. If the solenoid is clicking, the circuit that triggers it is working.
Deck vibration can be caused by an unbalanced blade, worn pulley or mandrel, bad blade belt or debris caught inside a pulley. Loose nuts or bolts on the pulleys, mandrels or blades can also cause vibration. Remove the mower deck and re-tighten all fasteners. Check for wear on pulleys, mandrels and blades.

I have a cub cadet 2165 I just put in a new battery and it is slow turning over any ideas?
ANSWER : If battery is good and everything is hooked up right. Most likely could be the pto clutch bearing. Not the bearing on the pulley but on the clutch inside. Had the same problem, took the spark plugs out got it free. Turned over easy with plugs out, Started right up after and then burned up my bearing. Don’t burn up bearing. If do field assy. For that is 200$ if you can get away with just that. Otherwise 350-400$ for full assy.
