20 Hp 42″ Deck Lawn Tractor

Craftsman lt 2000, the little star shape that holds the blade in place has worn down and won’t hold the blade still how do I replace, looks like its part of the pully. I’m trying to take off the blade but it keeps spinning behind the blade. It seems to be held on by 3 screws on deck do I have to replace it all? does anyone know what’s the part called so I can look it up?
Experienced gardeners share their insights in answering this question :
I would need a complete sears model number to look this up for you, however, you will need to remove the intire blade spindle housing, then you can remove just the shaft from the housing. and just replace the shaft. Will save a lt of money.
if you can find the complete model number you can go on the internet to

mtd.com/parts or to ayp.com/parts

and you can pull up a parts diagram and find the exact part number and order it online, or take model number to sears and they will either have it in stock or can order it for you. Sears will however cost you a fair amount more then ordering online. I hope this helps you

How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

Top Reasons why your blades will not engage on your riding mower or tractor: Belt-the number one cause for your blades not to engage is that your belt is either stretched or loose causing it to slip or fall off completely. Belt could have snapped also.
Worn or broken blade drive belt – If the riding mower blades are not spinning, the blade drive belt may be worn or broken and unable to engage the blades. If the belt is intact, inspect it to see if it`s loose or slipping on the pulleys then replace it with a new one if necessary.
Deformed Blade

In some cases, the unnatural shape of the blade can be enough to prevent you from tightening it properly. A bent shape can also mess with the blade`s overall balance. An unbalanced mower blade can produce vibrations that will loosen the bolt over time.

The lawn mower blade is attached to the blade adaptor with a bolt, and the bolt must be tightly fastened to the blade for the mower to cut correctly. If the bolt becomes loose, the blade will become unbalanced and can eventually break the bolt and fall off.
To tighten the bolt or nut use a torque wrench and tighten it to proper torque specification. Walk behind mower blades should be installed between 38 and 50 foot pounds of torque. Riding mower blades should be installed between 70 and 90 foot pounds of torque.
Blade bolts should always be torqued to the proper range. For the 7/16 GR 8 bolts (5/8″ wrench) used on some mowers, torque to 45-55 ft lbs. Please use the factory bolt because there must be a recessed area in the washer. For the 3/8 x 24 GR 8 bolts (9/16″ wrench) used on other tractors, torque to 30-40 ft lbs.
Why would the cutting belt chirp or squeak when the cutting deck is first engaged? These belts are designed to suddenly grasp several pulleys and quickly get them up to a high RPM quickly. A short chirp or squeak is normal, especially when related components are new.
A dull blade is the number one reason for leaving uncut grass. The blunt blade will damage your lawn in no time at all; it tears the grass and leaves a jagged edge which turns the grass tips yellow. The recommended way to repair the yellow grass damage – regularly cut with a sharp lawnmower blade.

I have a lt 2000 15.5 briggs and when i go to
ANSWER : Sometimes when these sit over the winter, and one of the valves are open, the valve will stick that way. Unfortunately the only way to fix it is to take the cylinder head off, lubricate the valve stem, and manually work it. It will loosen up enough to close on its own power, then you can put it back together and run it.
