Maybe the unit is overheating due to a lack of ventilation and it has been a very hot summer. Make sure that the intake vents on the unit are open and clean, free of grass, debris, dirt etc. Easy to clog up with all the stuff flying around when running.
How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?
We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :
The air filter or exhaust port may be blocked. The trimmer may need lubrication and cooling fins or air passages may be blocked. A cordless trimmer`s battery or charger may be faulty.
If your trimmer engine idles, but stalls on throttle, check the following parts: the gasket, primer bulb, fuel filter, air filter, fuel vent, fuel line, and carburetor. The repair and symptom guide will help you better identify the part needed to be replaced and how.
When your trimmer starts and runs on choke, it could be because the check valve in the gas cap is clogged. Start the trimmer and gently unscrew the gas cap halfway off. Turn the choke off and assess. If the engine is still running, that means the gas cap may be the culprit.
Checking for debris or damaged blades: Visually inspect the blades and confirm there is no debris stopping the blades from moving. If there is debris ensure the machine is powered off when removing any blockages. Check the blades for any damage as a damaged cutting blade could cause the machine to stop working.
Over time, the spark arrestor can become clogged with soot. If the spark arrestor is clogged, the engine may stall. To unclog the spark arrestor, remove it and clean it with a wire brush. You may also replace the spark arrestor.
The first thing to do is to ensure that the battery is fully charged. If after charging the battery you are still experiencing the problem, then it may indicate a fault with either the battery or charger. The defective item will need to be replaced.
Check for corrosion, breakage, deposits or melted parts. If you notice any of these negative symptoms, it`s time to replace the plug. A filter maintains a clean airflow inside the engine and stops small particles to enter and damage its internal parts. So, an air filter might clog over time.

The head won,t turn – Craftsman 25cc Gas Line Trimmer
You will need to pull the head off, as it sounds like the cable is off. there should be four bolts/screws, there maybe some in the middle also, gently remove the head(this is the top of the trimmer where the pull cord is, once you have it separated you can turn the cable by hand and the line feeder should rotate, if it does then look inside the head and make sure it is still square and not rounded. or you can pull the line feeder off and pull the cord and see if the cable rotates, whichever you feel comfortable with trying. Good Luck Tim
Trimmer starts and runs for 15 seconds and stops. won’t start for a few minutes and does the same ,
Check the air filter, replace the fuel if it is last year’s, clean the spark plug or replace. Also lube the blade. Good luck…Lee
Will cut off after five min of running .does it need a new coil
Check gas cap first for vent being plugged as this will create a vacuum in the tank and prevent fuel delivery. Test when problem occurs by immediately loosening cap and retightening to see if restarts right away you might even hear air going into the fuel tank.
If it doesn’t restart, possible coil. Coils are usually affected by the increase of heat when running having too high resistance in the electrical windings or possible moisture.
My hedge trimmer will not start… Put in new gas
It’s not getting gas, due to being gummed up with old gas. Remove all of the old gas and mix up a batch of fresh gas&oil. Also get some carb cleaner. Put just a little of the gas&oil mix plus an equal part carb cleaner. Try to start it just to work the new mixture through the carb. You might use the spray start to help pull the new gas through. If it fires up on the new gas&oil&carbcleaner mix, shut it off and let it sit for an hour or two. Drain it out and try just a little gas&oiil without the carb cleaner. If all is well fill the tank. If not, repeat the whole process. If you can’t clear the gum this way you may have to remove the carb to clean it.
