However, the capacity of the oil tank on a 4.5-hp Craftsman lawnmower engine is 20 fl. oz. So, for regular oil changes, fill the tank with 20 fl. oz.
Oil capacity is typically 15oz or 18oz*. Check oil level during the season and add when necessary. Change engine oil every 50 hours or annually, whichever comes first.
Walk-behind mower engines usually take 15 oz or 18 oz of oil; riding mower engines require 48 oz or 64 oz of oil. To avoid overfilling, pour in approximately three-quarters of the bottle, then check the tank with the dipstick to determine if the oil level is at full. You can then add more oil, as necessary.
The 19.5 hp lawn tractors take 48 U.S. fluid ounces, or 1.5 U.S. quarts, of detergent motor oil at each oil change. The oil must conform to API service classification SF, SG or SH.
Can You Use Synthetic Lawn Mower Oil? Yes! We have recently modified our engine oil recommendations to state that you may now use a synthetic 5W30 or 10W30 oil in all temperature ranges.
Is SAE 30 Oil The Same As 10W-30? No. Unlike SAE 30, SAE 10W-30 is multi grade oil. SAE 10W-30 has SAE 10W viscosity at a lower temperature and SAE 30 viscosity at a hotter operating temp.
Typically, cars require between 4.7 and 7.5 liters of motor oil, but each engine is different, so it`s best to look at your owner`s manual.
In general, though, it can be estimated by the number of cylinders of the vehicle. For instance, a four-cylinder engine needs about 3.5 to 4.5 litres, a six-cylinder engine needs around 4.5 to 5.5 litres, and an eight-cylinder engine needs approximately 5.5 to 7.5 litres of oil.
Most engines require between 5 and 8 quarts of motor oil regardless of the season. But that`s just an estimate! For your particular vehicle`s oil capacity, refer to your vehicle owner`s manual.
SAE 10W-30 4-Cycle Lawn Mower Oil (20 oz) | CRAFTSMAN.
There is no difference between 4-cycle oil and regular engine oil; they are the same. Common engine oils used in lawnmowers are SAE30, 5W30, and 10W30. A lawnmower engine will start without oil, but you must never do so; even running it for a short time will cause serious engine damage.

ANSWER : Put straight 30 weight motor oil in it. Not 10W30 or any multi-viscosity oil. Straight 30 weight motor oil. If you’re doing a complete oil change, then you may want to use Synthetic 30 weight, which will last longer between oil changes and also make your engine last longer (but it costs more too). ANSWER : Most likely you have a carb issue. Remove the carb(s) and supply fuel to them, when level, and see which is leaking. Drain and replace the oil, as it will be unable to lube properly.
