Experienced gardeners share their insights in answering this question :
Depending on the chainsaw, you will have an outer nut on the right hand side of the bar the chain

rides on, you have to loosen this nut, and on the left side against the body to the left of the bar

there is a screw clock wise to the right will tighten the chain, and counter clock wise will loosen

the chain. when you tighten the chain do not over tighten, never grab the chain on the bar with your

bare hands either use gloves or a rag, you want the chain to be able to move freely around the bar

but you do not want it to bind or come off the bar . once you have it adjusted make sure you lock

down the outer nut or nuts. make sure the chain is always oiled to prevent accidents. good luck!

Turning the adjusters clockwise will tighten the chain, and counterclockwise will loosen it. By turning the adjusters, you`re moving the whole wheel up and down the swingarm, so moving them gradually and equally on both sides of the bike is essential.
Chainsaw chains stretch during normal operation and begin to sag on a saw`s guide bar. If a chainsaw chain is allowed to become too loose, it can easily come off the bar during operation and create an unsafe situation for the user. Chainsaw chain tension should be checked and tightened often.
During a typical afternoon wood-cutting session that lasts 2 to 4 hours, you may need to tighten the chain two or three times. But, it`s quick and straightforward since you don`t need to disassemble the saw. Keep a scrench nearby for tightening.

Chain keeps coming off – Remington Electric Chain Saw
ANSWER : Normally, a loose chain will enhance it’s ability to jump off when trimming small branches. When installing and/or adjusting a chain;1) install the chain, bar, and cover, and install the cover nut loosely2) support the ‘nose’ end of the bar with a block3) tighten the chain until it touches the bottom of the bar, and then tighen the adjuster 1/8 of a turn more. *this will make the chain just a LITTLE snug4) tighten the cover nut, and then by hand CAREFULLY rotate the chain. If you cannot rotate by hand, it is too tight. re-adjsut
** This proceedure must be used on ANY brand chain saw. Here is why. If the bar nose is not lifted upon adjustment, when cutting, the nose will move upward, the chain will have a ‘droop’ away from the bar and appear to have loosened while cutting. Any contact with a small branch will flip the chain off of the bar. If you re-adjust it improperly, the same senerio will occur the next cut.

Chain saw chain is loose
ANSWER : Loosen the side cover nuts, then turn the adjuster CW to bring the chain up to the lower edge of the bar, then check to see if the chain will move fairly easily by hand. Tighten the clamp nuts and recheck tension. If chain seems to get loose quickly again, it may not be sharpened correctly causing heat to build in the chain. You should see no reflection of light from the cutting edges if filed correctly and the saw should require very little pressure for it to cut rapidly. Hope this helps!
