Model 2025 has electric PTO. Everything works except the PTO won’t engage. Have replaced all 3 of the electrical switches and they are testing OK now. How do we test to see if the solenoid is good? What else can it be?

If the PTO clutch is not getting power, if the clutch solenoid is defective, or if the clutch is worn out, the lawn mower blades will not engage. The PTO clutch is not repairable—if the clutch is defective, you must replace it.
To engage live PTO: Depress the clutch pedal fully, move the engagement lever to the rear `A`. Set the engine speed to 1788 rev/min for 548 PTO shaft speed.
A PTO draws its power from the vehicle`s engine, but it cannot start transferring that power until it has been engaged. PTOs can be engaged through air pressure, hydraulic pressure, or a cable, explains Luke Hart, customer/employee technical training instructor for Muncie Power Products, a manufacturer of PTOs.
The PTO is engaged and disengaged using the main transmission clutch and a remote control mechanism which operates on the PTO itself. Typically, an air valve is used to engage the PTO, but a mechanical linkage, electric or hydraulic mechanism are also options.

I have a Craftsman FS5500 48″ lawn mower. The PTO makes a noise (squeak) for a second when I pull up on the red blade engage knob. The blades do not engage. PTO does not turn. When I push the red button down to disengage there is a brief squeak from the PTO.

It worked well the past month then a little problem 2 weeks ago. It seemed to disengage after mowing a while. Then after sitting for 15 minutes the blades would engage. I used it earlier this week and the PTO won’t turn at all.

Just purchased from the last and original owner a month ago. He said the oil would need to be changed this summer. Could that be part of the problem? Engine runs great!

Also, I need an owners manual, not able to find from the previous owner.

Thanks

ANSWER : Hi,The problem is probably in the button that you pull and push to engaged and disengage the PTO… If you wiggle the button or try to pull it slowly, you may find a spot where it will work. But the button has gone bad and will need to be replaced. If you are comfortable with wiring, you could jumper the wires and getting it working, but it would be a very temporary and possibly dangerous fix…

Mower won’t start
ANSWER : This may sound stupid but don’t mean it to…
Have you tried with the choke all the way open? Do you have an automatic cruise? Is the right (correct) pedal being pushed in? These will affect if it starts or not. Also if your drive belt or one of the other belts not being tight enough will affect if it starts or just turns over. Not too many things can stope it from starting with new/good battery AND if its getting gas. Try cleaning your gas line and obviously making sure there is no obstruction around or near your blade, if it does start with blade engaged that is :))
If it doesn’t start with blade engaged, well make sure it’s in neutral. Mine won’t start in reverse but will in forward or neutral.

Hope it helps.

PTO CONTROLS. How do you engage and disengage PTO.
ANSWER : The tractor is not a 6300 is it.If it’ not you need to adjust the cable for the p.t.o. until it will stay down.Don’t turn the turnbuckle too much at a time because there is a fine line between the won’t engage and the won,t disengage adjustment.

Allis 5040 tractor Cannot engage pto when engine is running. PTO engagement lever does not work at all in Independent mode, but Synchronous mode works if engine started with synch mode engaged. Craftsman 20hp lawn tractor blades won’t engage
ANSWER : On mine the part that stops the belt when you disengage was stuck and would not let go. So, the belt could not get in the position to move freely. Back off the nut just a little on the one that is stuck and it will let go and allow the pulley system to engage.
