What are the Causes for Mower Blades that Won`t Disengage? The causes for mower blade disengagement are the loose engagement lever and the worn-out idler rod and cable. Other causes that can cause these bade problems are missing springs, defective idler arms, and mounting defects.
This could be caused by not enough air getting into the system, not enough fuel getting into the system, or the fuel/air mix not burning well enough once it gets into the cylinder. It`s probably a clogged air filter. Could also be a clogged fuel filter or a bad spark plug.
If the PTO clutch is not getting power, if the clutch solenoid is defective, or if the clutch is worn out, the lawn mower blades will not engage. The PTO clutch is not repairable—if the clutch is defective, you must replace it.
Usually, manual cars will stall because the driver has let the clutch out too quickly. This means the `revolutions per minute` (RPM) of the engine has dropped too low and the engine has stopped. You`re less likely to stall if you release the clutch slowly.
Centrifugal Clutch Won`t Engage

If your clutch won`t engage, It usually means that the engine idle speed is different to the clutch idle speed. This can result in damage. To correct this, change the spring or change the engine speed to below the clutch idle speed.

Powershift PTO engagement problems could be from blocked hoses or fittings, bad connections or ground or the solenoid. Mechanical PTO engagement problems could originate from low air pressure, improper cable installation or back lash too tight.

How do I remove electric clutch pulley on Craftsman 917.257720 lawn tractor?
ANSWER : If i’m not mistaken there should be a bolt in the center of the clutch that screws to the crankshaft remove top cover and have someone hold a wrench or socket on the top nut while another unscrews the bolt running through the clutch (righty tighty lefty loosey) may need to unbolt the steel rod that keeps the clutch housing from spinning. also dont forget to unplug the wires hope this helps

Blades wont engage have 12 volts to the clutch when switch is pulled.
ANSWER : The clutch is electro magnetic, once 12 volts is sent throught the windings the clutch engages, so if it does not engage there is more than likley a brake in the internal windings which unfortunatley will mean a new clutch.

Allis 5040 tractor Cannot engage pto when engine is running. PTO engagement lever does not work at all in Independent mode, but Synchronous mode works if engine started with synch mode engaged. Depression of foot clutch pedal has no effect in engagement or disengagement. Anyone have any ideas as to problem and parts needed?
