How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

Your first issue is to resolve the problem of the cleaner getting stuck or going in circles. This is most likely caused when pool cleaners are left in the pool 24/7. When the water is cold or cools off from a warm day, the plastic in the hose gets a memory and curls slightly.
Look for air bubbles attached to the cleaner hose and head. If present, pull sharply on the cleaner hose to release bubbles. Then, correct the source of the air leak to prevent further floating. Ozone systems not adjusted correctly may be the source of the bubbles.
The cleaner does not reach all areas of pool, stays in deep end. Hose length is incorrect. Adjust hose to required length using the measuring tape included with the cleaner.
If your Kreepy Krauly is often stuck at one side of your pool there are two potential fixes. If the hose is too short then buy another line and have it extended out enough to cover the pool. On the other hand, if it is constantly being coiled then relaxing it or changing how you keep it stored will fix that problem.
Why is my robot turning circles or spinning around in open spaces? The robot`s navigation algorithm turns the robot in open spaces in order to cover more area. If this occurs frequently, turn off your unit and dust off the bumper lens with a clean, dry cloth. Press the bumper back a few times to ensure it moves freely.
If your Hayward pool vacuum becomes too slow to clean your pool effectively, the vacuum likely has a blockage or the shoes and wings need to be replaced. Shoes and wings have wear indicators for determining when they require replacement.
If you backwash your pool too much i.e. time duration and/or close frequency then yes you can cause a lot of problems. Some problems that can arise from backwashing your sand pool filter too much are: Loss of water – 500+ litres of water can be lost in each backwashing cycle.
Cleaners aren`t meant to stay in the pool 24/7. This is true for all cleaners. Pressure side cleaners run on a schedule every day so why take it out? Leaving the cleaner in the pool 24/7 increases its exposure to corrosive chemicals in the water, such as chlorine or shock.
The rule of thumb for pool maintenance is to run your pump for eight hours per day.
Never leave your cleaner in the pool while adding chemicals to the water, as high chemical concentrations can harm the cleaner. Allow the water plenty of time to circulate, and recheck the water balance before returning it to the pool for another cleaning cycle.
By far the most common cause for an automatic pool cleaner to be slow or stop altogether is a congested pool filter, luckily this is easy to diagnose, simply turn off your pump and set the multiport to the “bypass” or circulate position and turn the pump on again.

Problems with Pressure Pool Cleaners

When you notice your pressure pool cleaner not moving the first thing to do is to check the booster pump. The booster pump should be on and the filter pump should also be running at the same time. Check this and also make sure that the cleaner has about 30 psi to operate.

The filter sand gets clogged

The most common cause for a Kreepy to stop working is clogged filter sand. This is easy to diagnose because whenever you backwash the pool filter, you`ll find that the Kreepy works like a bomb for 10 minutes. Then it gets sluggish and slows down or stops again.

My cleaner doesnot come out of the deepend and circles toth left
ANSWER : These automatic pool cleaners are pretty easy to troubleshoot. Make sure that the finger screen and energy filter are not dirty. If clogged or obstructed, both of these can cause the cleaner to go in circles and stall. Make sure that the backup hydro-timer is not releasing most of the water out of the discharge hole. If it is, you will probably have to replace the defective jet gear assembly. Make sure that the transporter jet is not plugged and that the debris chamber and hose are not obstructed.

Ray Vac Pool Cleaner for Inground Concrete: after cleaning out debris from my ray vac my jandy…
ANSWER : What model is it? Is it robotic (indepentdent of your pump and filter)? If it is attached to your pump system, it could be the cord getting tangled and causing the pool cleaner to move in circles. You might want to consider running it when you are available to watch it or getting a robotic cleaner that you can set to operate at certain times. You might just need to check the hose for defects that would cause it tangle.

Same prob. ray vac circles bottom of deep end. tink2b3 suggested moving the gears? what does that mean?
ANSWER : Mabey the gears in the backup valve a small football in line about 18″ from wall. Just pull it from the water if you have one that is about every one to two munites it should send a jet of water out the side of the backup valve for about ten or fifteen seconds. If it dosen’t you need a new one . Quite often a more likliy problem is tight swivels your local pool store can ck these for you and the leingth of your hose should just make the far point of the pool so it streches the hose and pulls all the kinks and loops out. Your pool store can help you with much of this and they will check the whole unit if you bring it in to the store and will usually just charge for parts.

I have the problem of the circling Ray Vac. And I haven’t seen any solutions here. What’s wrong, and what do I have o do to fix it?
ANSWER : PRESSURE is King. After taking apart my entire Ray-Vac and hoses, nothing seemed to fix my circling problem. I finally performed a full cleaning of all my mechanicals, especially the paper filter. I noticed a significant improvement in my water pressure and my Ray-Vac starting running all over the pool again doing her job like she used to. So, the Ray-Vac is very sensitive to water/jet pressure. Check your filter system. You want the most pressure you can get of out jet where you connect the Ray-Vac. This completely solved my problem.
