How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

If your chainsaw still starts and then stops working, check the air filter. Clean or replace the air filter if it is dirty or damaged. Another reason that your chainsaw starts and then stops working could be that the spark arrestor is dirty or clogged. If this is the case, clean it with a wire brush.
The carburetor might be clogged. A clogged carburetor is often caused by leaving fuel in the chainsaw for a long period of time. Over time, some of the ingredients in the fuel may evaporate, leaving behind a thicker, stickier substance. This sticky fuel can clog up the carburetor and cause the chainsaw engine to stall.
How long the chainsaw runs before dying depends on how badly clogged the air filter is. In the case that your chainsaw runs for a while, then dies, it may be possible to simply clean the air filter to correct this symptom. However, a damaged air filter should be replaced.
If the chain is cutting to the left that means the right teeth on the chain are longer, and vise versa. To correct, sharpen only the side with the longer teeth. If the bar has worn unevenly it will also cause the chain to not cut straight.
If the filter becomes clogged, not enough fuel will reach the engine for it to run properly. Because your chainsaw will idle, but dies when it is revved up to full power, it means that the filter is only partially clogged; it will allow enough fuel to the engine to run on idle, but not enough to sustain full throttle.
Remove the spark plug and inspect if it is dirty, cracked, eroded, or damaged. There may also be a heavy carbon buildup or a burned-up electrode. If the spark plug has one or more of these issues, replace it with a new one.
Information we found online suggests that Stihl Pro Chainsaws have a run time of about 2,000 hours. That means the saw would last you for a minimum of 5.5 years before dying. Keep in mind this time is rated for professional chainsaws and not for regular homeowner saws.
Generally, two-stroke chainsaw engines are built to conveniently run at full throttle without an engine breakdown. Therefore, running at any throttle speed below the full throttle is not advised. Cutting a thick wood or timber while running at a low speed or throttle can cause the blades of the chainsaw to become dull.
The most likely culprit is a dirty or clogged air filter. Issues with your fuel pump or fuel filter can also cause your engine to idle then die with any throttle. If you have an older car, it could also be a bad carburetor.

Chain saw starts fine, idles fine, and powers up fine when not cutting a long how when starting to cut a log it bogs down and dies. Does anyone know how to fix this problem or what’s wrong with the chain saw?
ANSWER : Two things that can cause this problem. 1. Your carburetor is not set properly and is not letting the engine get enough fuel under a load. 2. Your chain is binding when you put the chain bar down on the log. Make sure your front chain sproket is turning free and is not too sloppy.

I have purchased Poulon pro 42cc 18 inch chainsaw. I am extremely satisfied with my chainsaw until now. I have only owned it for about two months. I only used it maybe 10 times for easy tasks.
my chainsaw does not cut straight through logs, rather it cuts slanted and small smoke comes out from the chain/bar. What could be the problem?
ANSWER : A curved or slanted cut is usually caused by one row of cutting teeth being duller than the other row. The sharper row cuts more wood than the duller row, thereby curving or slanting the cut. You can tell which side is deficient by the direction of curve. If the cut curves to the left, then the right side teeth are sharper and the left side (from the operators position) is duller. File with extra attention to the dull side. Using a round file with a file guide is best. File from the inside to the outside at 30-35 degrees as shown on guide. The smoke is an indicator of dull teeth which are heating up the wood due to friction.
