Internal combustion engines can seize up when poor lubrication causes the piston to overheat, expand and come into contact with the cylinder. Seizure affects both 4-stroke and 2-stroke internal combustion engines, and not just in cars, motorcycles and scooters, but in gardening tools too.
If your chainsaw does not start, the fuel may be too hot. To prevent this from happening, always use fresh fuel and reduce your operating time when the weather is warm. If your chainsaw will not start, place it in a cool area away from sunlight for at least 20 minutes.
The chainsaw chain should feel snug but still pull freely.
If your chainsaw shuts down when turned sideways, it is usually because the fuel filter is held away from the fuel, as the position of the chainsaw has changed. The fuel filter must be able to stay in the fuel as the position of the chainsaw is changed.
Professional loggers and home renovators flip the chainsaw bar upside down on their chainsaw for several reasons: To ensure that the wear on the bar remains even. To extend the bar`s lifespan. To maximize the efficiency of the chainsaw as it operates.
The fuel line may be clogged from stale fuel deposits, more reasons to cause your chainsaw to cut out when applying throttle. If a fuel line is cracked, it will leak gasoline and draw air from outside into the fuel line. If the line is leaking fuel, it needs to be replaced.
If the clutch pads are worn out, the motor will run, but the clutch pads will not engage the clutch drum. As a result, the chain won`t turn. Make sure that the stop lever is disengaged. If the stop lever is engaged, the chain won`t turn.

I was using the saw as a chain saw last weekend to cut up an old tree stump when the chain came off. I don’t know how to access it to put it back on and don’t have a user manual. The saw belonged to my late father and I don’t know if he even kept the manual.
ANSWER : You will have to remove the cover on the side the chain bar goes into. There should be one or two nuts holding the cover on the side. The is also a chain tension adjuster you may have to loosen to put it back on. Make note of the direction of the teeth on the chain. It is an directional chain. The tension adjuster is usually a flat head screw on the front side right beside the chain bar.Unless it is a really old saw, manuals are available from most manufacturers for free download. See if you can locate a brand name and model number.

Chain saw chain is loose
ANSWER : Loosen the side cover nuts, then turn the adjuster CW to bring the chain up to the lower edge of the bar, then check to see if the chain will move fairly easily by hand. Tighten the clamp nuts and recheck tension. If chain seems to get loose quickly again, it may not be sharpened correctly causing heat to build in the chain. You should see no reflection of light from the cutting edges if filed correctly and the saw should require very little pressure for it to cut rapidly. Hope this helps!
How to take out the piston in my chain saw – Echo CS400 18" Chain Saw
ANSWER : The cylinder must be removed from the crankcase (be sure to clean the exterior of the engine and all parts with compressed air first). That involves removing the carburetor, muffler, cylinder head, and possibly the entire outer case parts. If the piston/ring(s) requires replacement due to scuffing, the cylinder will likely need to be replaced also. Many modern engines use a chrome plated lining for the cylinder interior and any piston damage will affect the cylinder plating also. Use great care when installing the new piston in the cylinder as the ring(s) are quite fragile. Also look for direction marks on the piston as some engines use an offset pin. Be sure to lubricate everything as you go with saw oil to prevent start-up damage. Hope this helps!
