Remove the drive cover plate, then inspect the internals of the brake assembly. Either the brake band is damaged or possibly full of debris that prevents release of the brake. Does the brake lever actuate when off of the saw? Clean the entire assembly with compressed air and check the brake ‘toggle’ action. Look for damaged components. The brake mechanism must be released to reinstall the cover. Clean and check the drive end oil passages for any plugging. When the cover is installed with fasteners finger tight, adjust the chain until it comes up to the lower run of the bar, but not so tight that it can’t be pulled by hand. Tighten the nuts and recheck tension. Check for proper oiling by holding the bar tip near a piece of cardboard and running at speed for a few moments–it should throw off a light line of oil onto the board. Hope this helps!

The chain tension may be too tight.

55 rancher Husqvarna got very hot due to no oil in gas, and will not start again.
ANSWER : The piston rings rely on the oil in the gas to lubricate the cylinder wall. More than likely, the rings are now too small to provide the proper seal for enough compression. It could also have worn the cylinder wall more than the rings, the end result is the same.
You can try to remove the plug, put in about a 1/2 teaspoon of oil into the plug opening, slowly pulll the rope 1 time to let the oil coat the ring & wall & then put the plug back in & try to start it. Use a little extra oil in your gas to provide thicker lubrication. good luck
