I have a poulan pro pbv200le, and while using it, it stopped working, I thought I was out of gas, so added and tried to pull the cord. The word will not budge. I disassembled the case and now can see there are two latches that prohibit the cord from moving past one of the ridges. Sorry the best I can do in explaining. What do you think might be the problem? the latches I referred to appear to be spring loaded, is there something triggering them to go to a closed position?Your help is appreciated.
Experienced gardeners share their insights in answering this question :
Those catches are what rotate the crank when you pull the cord, the spring’s are to bring them back to their original position. while you have it apart gently tug on the pullcord to see if they try to move, if so then your problem lies deeper in the engine.

How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

Sometimes, when your starter rope will not retract into your leaf blower, it can be because it is jammed between the pulley and the housing, or it is wrapped around the hub. In this case, you will often be able to fix the symptom by simply opening the machine and untangling or removing the rope from where it is stuck.
The pull cord mechanism on a lawn mower isn`t complicated, and the reason your cord isn`t catching is that one of the components of the flywheel starter assembly has failed under the stress of regular use. Typically it`s either worn or broken pawls, or a damaged pulley system.
If a pawl becomes worn or broken, it will not be able to engage the flywheel and the engine will not turn over. This can cause your starter rope to pull too freely. To check the pawls, begin by removing the starter. Next, pull the starter rope and watch for the pawls to come out; they should fly right out.
Why Is Your Lawn Mower Pull Cord Hard To Pull? Your lawn mower pull cord hard to pull is because of the way you pull the cord, the area where your mower is located when you are trying to start it, because it has a blade obstruction, or because of a starter mechanism-related issue.
The problem may be in the recoil starter itself. A tangled coil of rope or a broken spring may be the problem. In many cases the recoil starter is easily replaced as a single assembly. DO NOT attempt do take the starter apart.
The simplest cause of this sort of fault is a loose or corroded electrical connection. If there is a fault with the internal windings of the starter motor, bad brushes, or other electrical faults, the starter motor may lack the torque to crank the engine.
Place the blower on a level, dust-free surface. Make sure the power switch is on, the master control is in the cold-start position and the throttle interlock is engaged, if so equipped (consult manual). Press the manual fuel pump a minimum of 5 times.
How does a leaf blower work? Leaf blowers make use of centrifugal force to move the fallen leaves in your garden to make it tidy. Turning your leaf blower on will cause its motor to run, which spins the fan inside it. The spinning fan draws in air from outside the blower, before travelling out the other end.
Why Is Your Lawn Mower Pull Cord Hard To Pull? Your lawn mower pull cord hard to pull is because of the way you pull the cord, the area where your mower is located when you are trying to start it, because it has a blade obstruction, or because of a starter mechanism-related issue.
