19″ Electric Lawnhog Mulching Mower with Rear Bag

I have replaced it before, it has reverse thread- (blade spins counterclockwise.) Now when i stabalise the blade- the nut and apparently the bolt both just turn without loosening. I replace this blade last summer with no problem. Do i need a new mower?
Experienced gardeners share their insights in answering this question :
There are several parts that are in the blade to motor assembly, and it is possible one of those is broken. On at least some models one of the pieces is plastic and could have broken, another piece is a soft metal, it could have deformed, and a less likely possibility is the bolt’s or motor shaft threads are stripped.

Please supply the year and model, that would help to determine possible causes.

If your mower is in good condition, especially the battery, I would either attempt disassembly and correction, or if you’re not so inclined, locate a black and decker servicing center and have them fix it. Ask for an estimate and/or price to replace the parts once they’ve disassembled it, before committing to the fix, so you are not suprised with a high repair cost.

If it is too expensive to repair, you can likely sell the mower for parts. If so post back to this thread and someone may contact you to purchase the remains. If so be sure to post the age of the battery.

Worn or broken blade drive belt – If the riding mower blades are not spinning, the blade drive belt may be worn or broken and unable to engage the blades. If the belt is intact, inspect it to see if it`s loose or slipping on the pulleys then replace it with a new one if necessary.
The possible causes of a lawn mower blade spinning but not cutting grass include a damaged or wrongly installed blade, a dull blade, or damaged lawnmower tires. Other possible reasons can be improper tire pressure, a clogged deck, or a broken mower belt.
Lubricate the bolt with WD-40 and use vice-grip pliers or a long wrench to twist loose. Heat it with a torch for 15 seconds to loosen it more if needed. For rust, apply rust-penetrating liquid thread loosener and strike the the bolt 6-12 times with a hammer. Twist loose with a long-handled socket wrench.

Your lawn mower`s piston can seize if the mower stands for a long time in wet conditions or if you forget to put oil in the crankcase. You may be able to free the piston by removing the spark plug and manually rocking the blade.

It is a universal jig that clamps onto the deck and keeps the blade from spinning so you can use a ratchet to remove the nut holding the blade on. One name brand is called a “Blade Hog”. You should be able to find one of these at one of the bog box hardware stores.

What do I need to do to remove the blade adapter assembly for replacement?
ANSWER : You can remove it with a flywheel puller. I would use the one that has the flat hooks at the bottom of the puller. I would also use the blade bolt to push against with the flywheel puller. If you hook the flywheel puller onto the crankshaft there is a possibility that you could damage the threads for the blade bolt.

I hope this helps you out.
