Experienced gardeners share their insights in answering this question :
Make sure the chain brake is released and that the chain adjustment screw is backed out a few turns. Make sure that the adjustment tang drops into one of the large holes and attempt to install the cover. If the chain brake is contained in the cover (Husky brand and others), the brake must be released with a wide screwdriver. Hope this helps!

There are typically a few different possibilities for why a clutch pedal will stay on the floor. It could be a failed clutch master cylinder, slave cylinder, failed fluid line, or the clutch has failed.
The clutch cover assembly is bolted to the flywheel and provides the pressure needed to hold the clutch disc to the flywheel for proper power transmission.
The chainsaw clutch is made of two main parts that are separate when the engine idles slowly: The drive shaft, shoes, and spring. The drum, sprocket, and chain.
The clutch cover assembly is bolted to the flywheel and provides the pressure needed to hold the clutch disc to the flywheel for proper power transmission.
The clutch cover is bolted securely to the engine flywheel and consists essentially of a metal housing and a diaphragm spring with integrated actuation levers. This spring presses the axially displaceable pressure plate against the clutch disc and the flywheel when the clutch is engaged.
The clutch cover, also called the Pressure Plate Cover Assembly (PPCA), is a key component of a vehicle`s clutch system. The role of the cover assembly is to engage & disengage the drive plate whilst providing sufficient clamping force yet maintaining a low release force for driver comfort.

I remove the chain brake and bar cover from my 51/55 Husquarna saw and cannot get the cover back on the saw. The brake band is to tight to fit over the clutch assembley and I cannot figure out how to get to reinstall without removingftheband.
ANSWER : Hi, the chain brake has most likely been activated while removing the cover. Place the cover in a vise where the bar nuts tighten up to and pull the chain brake lever backwards towards where the handle bar would be. It should click back and stay back. Hope this helps, regards Phil.

The ring in the clutch cover will not fit over the clutch so that it can be tightened down. I used the saw 1 weekend end & it was fine. The next weekend the chain came loose during operation. It somehow would not tighten so decided to disassemble & reassemble just like I had done when it came out of the box with the new chain and bar.

Somehow the tension on the clutch cover ring has rendered it too small to fit over the clutch so cannot reassemble it & tighten nuts. I was told to pull the brake bar back and then it should go on.This came from the distributor I purchased it from. Also called a repair shop and they said the same about pulling the brake bar back. I tried to no avail. Also had a friend measure it and try to no avail.

The ring is the same exact circumfurance as the clutch ring it is trying to fit around. A fraction wider and it would fit on. Don’t know what happened that tensioned it up and can’t reverse it. I think the part is defective i.e. ring assembly inside cover. What is the answer?

ANSWER : This may not be the answer you are looking for but I would get a small file and file the ring just enough to make it fit. I really don’t understand why it got too tight in the first place but you stated that it only needs a fraction wider to work. Use a small file or drill to open the hole to the size you need and start cutting wood again. The Rancher is a great chain saw.

I was using the saw as a chain saw last weekend to cut up an old tree stump when the chain came off. I don’t know how to access it to put it back on and don’t have a user manual. The saw belonged to my late father and I don’t know if he even kept the manual.
ANSWER : You will have to remove the cover on the side the chain bar goes into. There should be one or two nuts holding the cover on the side. The is also a chain tension adjuster you may have to loosen to put it back on. Make note of the direction of the teeth on the chain. It is an directional chain. The tension adjuster is usually a flat head screw on the front side right beside the chain bar.Unless it is a really old saw, manuals are available from most manufacturers for free download. See if you can locate a brand name and model number.
