How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

If leaves turn brown, prematurely fall or change color, we often want to water more. Before doing this, dig down into the soil to evaluate how dry it is. If it is already moist, adding more water could kill the tree because the roots rot and the tree can`t take up water.
Apple chlorosis occurs as a result of a lack of iron in soil. It causes yellowing and possible die off of leaves. The yellowing starts just outside the leaf veins. As it progresses, the leaf becomes yellow with bright green veins.
When you see dead leaves, dormant stems, or brown parts of leaves, cut them away. It`s fine to pluck dead leaves or stems with your hands when possible, just don`t pull too hard, or you may damage the healthy part of your plant. For tougher stems or to remove brown leaf tips and edges, use scissors or pruning shears.
Instead, you will want to remove the fallen leaves and deformed fruit and then you should prune it back in the winter. You can apply an apple tree fungicide early in the following spring. You can use neem oil, sulfur/lime sulfur, copper, Captan, tebuconazole or myclobutanil for ornamental crabapple trees.
The brown leaf tips will not turn back to green but you can trim the brown edges to get the plant back to looking healthy. Find out more here. If your are noticing brown patches all over the leaves, this could also be a sign of overwatering.
When plants have too little water, leaves turn brown and wilt. This also occurs when plants have too much water. The biggest difference between the two is that too little water will result in your plant`s leaves feeling dry and crispy to the touch while too much water results in soft and limp leaves.
Captan. The most common fungicide spray for apple fruit rots is captan. Captan is a contact fungicide that stays on the surface of the apple and stops energy production in the fungus. It has low toxicity at normal levels and quickly degrades in water.
The three most common reasons for leaves to turn brown in summer – not enough water, too much salt, or incorrect fertilization – are preventable.
Though specific factors can differ between protected indoor plants and plants exposed in landscapes outdoors, brown tips arise for the same basic reasons. Once they turn brown, those dead tip cells can`t be revived, but quick corrections help restore the rest of your plant to health.
Once you start to address the plant leaves turning brown, your plant should start to grow new, healthy foliage. As for the leaves that still have brown tips, you can snip the dead parts away with a pair of scissors without hurting the plant.
Inconsistent watering, in particular allowing plants to dry out too long between waterings, will cause leaf edges and tips to turn brown. Excess salts can build up in the soil when too much fertilizer is applied which can also lead to brown leaf tips. Water and fertilize appropriately to prevent further browning.
